Just looks bad. Not the record of a good team. Especially not one who the media keeps talking about as a potential conference champion and high seed in the NCAA Tournament.

I wonder what other teams that are "supposed" to be a 3-5 seed are 12-7, with an under .500 record in their conference at this point in the season?

Pre-season media hype can carry a team a long way. If the team started off at #65 in the nation with no expectations to be good, you would have to think the media and fans would be talking about "the bubble" right now.

Preseason hype can only take you so far. If the selection committee sees a team with < 20 wins they aren't going to be kind, even if it is the Big 12. This team better start playing with some urgency, they could still miss the tournament.

Tech is a legit must win. Lose to probably the worst team in the conference at home and they may as well pack it in.

I think it's safe to say the media hype has all but disappeared after last night's loss at Baylor and a so-so performance at home in a loss to KSU.

And, in a way, that could be a good thing. This team needs to play with a mean streak and a sense of urgency now. If it takes being ignored by the national media to revive the spark we saw in our win over UT, so be it.

I think the teams we play could care less what the media hypes us to be or not to be and the OU players should know this intuitively.

I am not sure what some of you were expecting. We lost to KState at home and beat UT on the road. Beat Taco Tech in Norman and we're about where one might expect us to be at the middle of the season.

These conference teams are GOOD. They're not a joke. We should sweep Tech and if we sweep TCU then we have a good shot at minimally a 10-6. In this league thats a good record. An excellent record.

IMO we take Texas at home, OSUx in stoolwater, and have a good shot at Kansas if we keep the to's down. I worry more about ISU here, WV here, and KState on the road. Even so both 8-8 as well as 9-7 get us in the NCAA tourney - and there I think we excel.

Don't worry so much. It detracts from the fun of the season.

There are 18 conference games now.

Oh, I know the teams we play couldn't care less about the media hype. If anything, that's an incentive for them to be at the top of their game when they play OU.

What I'm hoping is that our players will use the lack of attention by the national media as a spring board to excel for the remainder of the season. I want them to be hungry again, like they were when they beat two ranked teams in Baylor and Texas to start the Big 12 season.

Looking at our schedule I believe we will be 21-9 and 12-6 at the end of the season. Give or take 1 game one way or the other. Not bad and probably a 5 or 6 seed. Depending on the draw win the first one and 50-50 shot at the second one to advance to the sweet sixteen. In the NCAA tourney the MOST important thing is to have really good guard play. We have that potential to succeed, we will see.

This is exactly what should happen. Spot on.

Thats how I see it turning out as well. I think these tough games, improved defense, and the fact this is a guard-dominant team will really help us come march. We have a shot to make the second weekend if the draw isn't horrid. To me that's a GREAT season given where we've been.

I've got OU finishing the year 5-6, maybe 6-5. Finishing 17/18 - 13/12. And before you scoff at that, remember that this team lost to KSU at home, lost to Creighton, got beat by 21 to WVU, etc. It's not like losing at KSU, OSU, ISU, etc as demonstrated below is beneath them.

They really need to go 4-0 against Tech and TCU, but that game in Forth Worth is scary and crazy things happen every year in Lubbock, TX.

Texas Tech: W
@OSU: L
WVU: W
@TCU: L
Iowa State: L
@KSU: L
Texas: W
@Tech: W
TCU: W
@ISU: L
Kansas: L

But they also have a chance to win every game they play except the one in Ames. You never know. If the light bulb comes on and they decide they want to make the tournament, they'll win 9 of these 11

The 4 games that I highlighted above are, IMO, swing games that we must split...at minimum. If we fall off to an 8-10, then this season had been close to a disaster. Even at 9-9, it is a very disappointing conference outcome.

Having said that and barring our recent performances in close games/pressure situations, I'm not sure if we get to 10 wins. I would have expected more progress from this group, but we just aren't seeing the results. And we all know that recent past results are the best indicator of future performance...at least that is what all the books say in regards to interviewing people.

I think this team really needs something good to happen to them in a close game. But they also need to make something happen (better decisions, mental toughness, etc.) in order to reverse our recent trend. Practicing these situations doesn't really help because it's nothing like the real thing you get in a game....you can't simulate the nerves, etc. in practice. Someone needs to step up as a closer or leader and make it happen.

Other than the Texas win, this team has squandered opportunity after opportunity to get statement wins. Until that changes, it's hard to see this team going better than .500 in conference.

OU has not lost to any of the bottom feeders in the league and they're not going to.

They will sweep the 3 garbage teams OSU, TTU and TCU. They won't get swept by anybody.

ABD tell us again how good the midget is for OSU. lol

Holding serve at home and winning two more road games (Tech, TCU, KSU, and OSU are all winnable) would put them 11-7. The problem is they played themselves into a hole and now can't afford many, if any, mistakes.

Yep. They have to figure out how to win close games.

I can remember a time when we won all the close games and now it seems the opposite.

I can also remember a time when we got blown out every game... :facepalm

LOL at OSU being a "garbage" team.

You know that your "garbage" team is currently ranked ahead of OU by your precious RPI rankings, 30 vs. 31. So why don't you go ahead and make your argument right now about how the RPI is the best system to measure teams, etc.

That issue aside, the "garbage" team isn't far behind OU in the real power rankings, Sagarin and KenPom.

OU is 17th in Sagarin, OSU is 26th

OU is 14th in KenPom, OSU is 24th

Seriously dude... your blinding hatred of OSU has clearly made you go retarded when you make any attempt whatsoever to evaluate them.

Because while OSU isn't going to win the conference, they are nowhere near approaching "garbage."
