14-17

D.) Didn't know PJ3 was going to be out of the game before they jotted down their predictions and thought Baylor might play inspired against a less-talented Oklahoma team that should have been depleted with the rumblings of their HC's head on the chopping block.

LMAO

Nonsense. BEFORE the season started, most people thought this was a team that if everything came together, could win 20 games or so and sneak into the Dance. Worst case, most thought we'd make the NIT.

Lay of the crack, man. It's fried your brain.

poopoo it all you want - this team grew significantly over the season. I don't care how you feel about Capel's future that's just a fact....and to deny it or even blemish it is pure aholishness.

If you are going to use 1-2 games to judge how bad we were early on (Chaminade and whomever), then I can use 1-2 games to show had bad we were late. What was it, about 10 days ago that TT blew us out of the gym?

We are not light years ahead of where we were. Are we better? Certainly. It's hard NOT to improve some of the year. Games = improvement. Everybody gets better. But to suggest this OU team has turned some corner is just silly.

I am so confused as to what your opinion on the situation is. At times you seem to be in the Capel must go camp and at other times you say things like this.

My point being, we had games early that we played well in.

We beat Coppin State by 20. We beat Texas Souther by 30, and they went 19-11, and 16-2 in conference. We played UK fairly tough. Beat a decent ORU team.

Some of you act like we started the season losing 10 straight games or something.

LMFAO. I'm not sure even the biggest sunshine pumper thought this team was a NCAA tourney team if everything came together. Most thought that the absolute best case scenario was a NIT bid.

im THE biggest sunshine pumper & even i said NIT there was NO way we were going to the NCAA this year

Does OU have any wins against teams that are going to the NCAA tournament? No

Does OU have any bad losses? Yes, Chaminade.

I don't get the overachieving statement. I think the kids played close to their potential but that doesn't translate into wins later, especially in a tougher league next year.

Colorado????

ON EDIT: Coppin, NCar Central, and Tx So are all still alive too...

Team met expectations in my mind...did not exceed them.

Get a "W" tonight against UT, would change my stance.

For me, it breaks down like this: Non-conference was at, or below my expectations, both in record and level of play. Conference was well above my expectations, somewhat in record but especially in overall quality of play.

Perfect example. NOW, you think the team over-achieved.

Before the season.....you predicted we'd finish 7th in the Big 12.

http://ouhoops.com/forum/showpost.php?p=218834&postcount=14

EdmondSooner thought we'd finish 8th.

http://ouhoops.com/forum/showpost.php?p=218831&postcount=11

In that same thread:

Tiny - 8th
sys - 9th
Mr. B - 9th
OULad - 10th
Capelfan52 - 10th with 6 wins

That was in July.

In November, was this thread:

http://ouhoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17395&highlight=predictions

Sam - 8th
Sooner in MI - 9th
BigTime - 7th
Sooner23 - 11th
boksooner - 9th
capelfan52 - 10th
Maxpower - 8th
okcsooner83 - 11th
ITK - 11th
hoopsaustin - 10th
cheno - 10th

So even after the bad non-conference games, we still had guys picking us higher than where we finished.

Another thread:

http://ouhoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17094&highlight=predictions

Most everybody in that thread picked more than 14 wins overall. Some were upwards of 20.

I stand by original statement. The only people that picked less wins for this team were the ones that panicked after Chaminade. The facts are above.

well for starters, thats a small sample size. And you listed where a lot of people thought we would rank in the big 12. Not overall wwins.

I don't even remember you being around before the season. I only remember you coming during the loosing streak. How convenient of you.

Small sample size? It's THE sample size on this site. Those were the only three threads I could find that had multiple predictions. Small in that there are OU fans, media, and others that don't post here? Sure. I posted a link to the overall wins prediction thread too. Actually, most posters were closer on our Big 12 finish then our overall wins prediction. Which makes it even stranger to hear the term "overachieved" thrown about.

Like I said earlier, I've been reading the board since sometime in it's first year. Yes, I didn't post until two weeks ago. Doesn't mean I haven't been around.

No OU team under Capel has ever overachieved.

I thought this team would make the NIT at the beginning of the season. Once we started playing in conference I found out how wrong I was.

Yep. Doesn't mean I didn't read the site before then.

Cool. Judging by your passion and disdain for the current program (which I don't totally fault you), find it peculiar you were able to hold it in for so long. Especially after those awesome showings against Chaminade and Virginia.

It took you that long?

I think you are flat wrong. As has been mentioned, the ONLY people that TOTALLY expected us to lose either A) didn't watch the first two meetings B) haven't watched Baylor play very much this season C) despise Capel...

You're correct. I meant the magnitude of the win was unexpected. Before hearing about PJ3, I thought there was a chance we would win, and after BU lost Perry, I figured it was a toss up. However, yesterday morning I didn't think there was any chance we would clean their clock and play, arguably, our best game of the year.
