16-29 in Big 12 play since Buddy left

Dont shoot the messenger. Also, my fandom is none of your concern, thank you.

the health of the program is my concern. if your fandom runs contrary to that and influences it in such a manner then it becomes my concern. thank you.

Pointing out facts (OU has the worst big 12 record last 3 years) on a fan message board is detrimental to the health of the program? Nonsense.

But i hope I have as much influence as you fear I do. We need regime change asap.

And I'm also not sure what my calling for a coaching change has to do with sports betting.

you're assuming I am speaking about you. you're also assuming I disagree with you. you're likely wrong on both counts. and don't underestimate the effects of what is said on social media. you'd be very surprised how far some of these things reach. and who repeats them.

People, if you have something to say then just say it directly as opposed to the indirect-beating around the bush approach which leaves a whole bunch said, but not much understood.

5 years removed from the final four run, our league record in that span is 38-51, excluding games in KC.

Even omitting the rebuilding year in '16-'17 yields a record of 33-38.

Guys, I love OU basketball. But our program is better than this. I'm worried about the trajectory of this program. The "good" years are becoming what I would have called down years just 15-20 years ago.

Yeah we will make the tournament again but, limping in as usual with no real chance of making any noise.

It's time to find a young, hungry coach who wants to work his butt off recruiting and developing. I get it. Kruger is "safe," and hes never getting fired, but his upside is limited. His best coaching days are behind him. Let's go take a chance on a homerun hire.

End rant.

Amen. Sick of all the uber defensive posters trumpeting Lon’s success in getting to the tourney every year, albeit barely many times. And most of the time when the team is in their clockwork end of year tailspin.. If you really think about it, what does making the tourney really mean? That you are in the top 70 of teams? Hurrah!

This team needs a talent infusion and change of identity. I, like everyone else got excited with the bump we got from the transfers, but this team just doesn’t have the talent or physical ability to sustain. I think most of us knew that the whole time..

The problem is we're just good enough that I don't think much will change. Joe C. won't feel obligated to push Lon to make big changes or step down (no way he gets fired). Lon won't feel enough pressure to make major changes of any kind. I said it a few years back (and caught flak for it) that we're just stuck in mediocrity for the time being. And I certainly don't see the successor coaching on staff.

Lon did what he was hired to do. He ran a clean program and got us back on our feet, and somewhat to a level of consistency. I'm just ready for something different now. No idea what that different is, just something different.

OU is in the top 20 will be in the top 25 next monday and people are talking about getting rid of the coach ??

To make the tournament as an at large team you have to be top ~35, not top 70. The other portion of the field goes to conf tourney winners. You may not think that is very impressive but to do it consistently almost every year is very difficult. Not even the blue bloods make it every year.

Careful, you’re letting facts get in the way by pointing this out lol. Anyone who thinks making the tourney just requires you to be in the top 70 clearly has lost perspective on how the field is selected.

So a yearly late-season collapse is okay as long as we sneak into the tournament, no matter that we have zero chance to make noise in the tournament? Noted.

Short sighted. LK has done a good job this year with what hes had to work with, no doubt. But it's not about this year.

I want new blood because we are THIRTEEN games under .500 in the league in 5 years, and its trending down. We finished 7th in the league this year, and, more importantly, the next year or two the team projects to be worse.

We are a bottom half of the big 12 program right now.

KU, Baylor, Tech, UT, and WV are all clearly in better shape going forward than we are. I'd argue OSU is too. That means at best we are fighting for that 7 spot.

Is LK the guy to get us in the top half consistently? His track record and age say no.

2013 - 10 seed: Loss to (7)San Diego State 1st round.
2014 - 5 seed: Upset by (12)North Dakota St 1st round.
2015 - 3 Seed: Upset by (7)Michigan St in Sweet 16.
2016 - 2 seed: 40 point loss to (2)Villanova Final Four.
2018 - 10 seed: Loss to (7) Rhode Island 1st round.
2019 - 9 seed: Loss to (1) Virginia 2nd round.

Big 12 seeding: 8, 4, 2, 3, 3, 9, 9, 7, n/a, 7(this year).
2-8 record in the Big 12 Tournament with a 1-1 at best added on this year with how we're playing. Add to this a sub .500b record in Big 12 play the last few years.

Lon is a great person, and coach. He should be a hall of famer. That Final Four season was one of the most fun sports seasons I've had as an OU fan. I appreciate his steadying of the ship after the Capel years, but I find it hard to believe we can't find anyone to improve upon those numbers going forward. Because with the current young group of players and the recruiting we have so far, it ain't getting any better.

Top 25 team is limping into the tournament?

I would call nearly losing to the worst team in the league and then losing 4 games in a row to end the season "limping into the tournament." YMMV.

So 13 games under .500, this year goes 9-8 where 7 teams are ranked in the top 25 & OU is trending down?

#2 Baylor - 0-1
#6 WVU - 2-0
#13 KU - 1-1
#15 UT - 1-1
#17 OSU - 0-2
#18 TTU - 0-2

Baylor game was the only loss by more than 5 points.

I wouldn't call a top 25 team limping into the tournament.

If OU won it's last 4 but still wasn't ranked and was going to be a lower seed than they will be (probably a 6) you would still say they were limping in.
