'25 Coaching Carousel Thread

I’ve been busy and haven’t made any charts, lol. Oops.

1. The ACC used to be such a good league. Definitely down right now.

2. A lot of programs are going to give their HCs another chance due to the change from 100% NIL to revenue sharing + NIL.

3. Personally, I think UNC and/or Syracuse need to hire new HCs. They could do much better.

This should give us a competitive advantage if Joe pulls his head out and fires mid major Moser. The fewer schools make the move, the fewer schools we here to compete with for candidates.

Working on an internal list of schools that would be higher in the pecking order if OU were to open up. I would imagine OU sits somewhere before or after FSU.

1. Indiana
2. Villanova
3. Miami
4. Texas*
5. Virginia
6. Florida State (maybe)
7. UCF*
8. Arizona State*

*not open yet but more likely by the day.

Iowa is another one I am watching.

Edit: Forgot about Virginia

I'll throw this in here. Trilly Donovan's Carousel Breakdown.

I like to do my own thing/come to my own conclusions but I probably won't have time anyway.

Hot Seat/Probably Next Year = self-explanatory....coaches not winning at a clip high enough to warrant extensions, job security, etc....so much depends on buyouts, length of contracts, and now revenue sharing. It's going to be interesting.

Old Guys = retirement watch (forced retirements are often the case).

Jump Street = mid/low major coaches that could jump up a level

Immortal = sort of a running joke about coaches who were on the hot seat for too many years to count...and have now found immortality (job security).

Nice list! Unfortunately, the more I think about it the more I am leaning that Moser may get another year 1741027316184.png

My guess is Luke Loucks. Sort of copying the BYU/Young hire from last cycle...Loucks did play for FSU, though.

Per Trilly, it sounds like NC State is going to fire Kevin Keatts.

That will seem odd to some but he hasn't been very good there outside of the tourney run. They got so lucky/hot.
Would you hire Keats? No? Now think about the fact that Keats is better than moser over his career.... oof

i wonder.....as college basketball moves toward the nba model.....will not having to recruit be attractive to nba assistants.
could be a much bigger pool of coaches available for colleges looking for replacements...

It's amazing how much better Keats has been -- and he is not considered a very good coach. More proof that going on a heater and making one FF doesn't mean you are a great, or even really good, coach.

That's my new theory.. def look at the career win % too = the moser rule.

Hire a 55% winning coach, get 55% winning coach..

i’ve been curious what the board reaction might be if we learned joe c was targeting the new dave bliss with the thunder. he might want an nba gig though.

I feel like I've been the only one on this train to this point, but I'm going to continue throwing Alan Huss' name out there as a candidate. Long time assistant at Creighton and he has been CRUSHING it at High Point the last two years. He's from Kansas City, played and coached at Creighton, and is only 46. Specializes more as a big man coach, and his teams know how to score.

This year they are 26-5 and currently have the 26th ranked offense according to KP. In his first year, they went 27-6 and finished with the 36th ranked offense in Kenpom. The defensive numbers admittedly don't look great, but the guy is 53-12 in two seasons and won his conference regular season title in both years he's been there. The year before he got there, High Point finished 14-17 overall and 8th in their conference. I know there will be a lot of options thrown out should we move on from Moser, but we could do way worse than Huss IMO.

Just read a really good article about Texas Tech and the new assistant they brought in this year to run their offense. He has known McCasland for a couple decades and left a head coaching job at Wyoming to come run Tech’s offense. The guy is an offensive guru and McCasland gives his complete control on that end of the court.

Meanwhile, Moser doesn’t let his assistants speak in walkthroughs.

Would be so nice to read about a genius/guru on our staff, or to have Moser loosen his grip on things. It didn’t say if this guy is interested in a head coaching job, but it implies he might be if it’s a power conference job (although likely with good NIL).
