+++++#7/7 Oklahoma [12-1] vs. #5/6 W. Virginia [13-1] Game Thread+++++

WV strategy was good. They forced Trae to drive but took away the dish to 3s. He had to either score or dish to bigs and they challenged both, often getting benefit of calls. I expect we might run more high screens next time to instead of letting them make it a 2 man game.

You guys always get mad at Fran when he calls one of our games if he doesn't constantly kiss up to OU.

He had 8 turnovers and needed 22 shots to get 29 points. That’s not a great game.

8 turnovers is not good. But kind of expected this game

I’m fine with 22 shots for 29 points

Very interesting take. I'd say that Doolittle played better than just about everyone else in crimson tonight. Not sure it was very close.

He missed several easy baskets and got pushed around. He didn’t play good. But you can tell he’s close

nope...I don't want him doing that. I know he respects LK a ton.

BUT...when he's calling fouls "I just see where it was a foul" ...he did that at LEAST 4 times. I've NEVER heard any announcers do that..for any game. Maybe 1 or 2 but he was constantly saying that tonight.

I watched Trae get fouled 3 times on a drive...after the pass in, driving the sideline in the backcourt, at the 3 pt line, then finally called on the way up. Fran was "I just don't see a foul there..." well I saw 3.

Lattin played eleven minutes tonight. Two early fouls that weren't excessive, but they were kind of silly fouls.

Jamuni played 29 minutes. He is so much better on the lobs....taller and longer arms. And he should be jumping center at the start of the game. Sometimes every possession matters.

JM had 12 pts, 8 board, 1 f, 1 steal...def think he should be playing more. Neither are a major "defensive" player so we get more offense with JM

Why did we not run any sets? I counted 4 times all night. Not going to beat teams like that playing one on one throwing up off balance shots. That was not the OU team I have watched all season. That was the man with the ball trying to do it all.

Agree Doo was good tonight except for missed dunk. Huge play -

Manek was 0 for 2
James was 2 for 6
McGusty was 3 for 8
McNeace was 6 or 7

And we missed 9 free throws.

The OU team you have watched all season shot the ball better than that. They didn't shoot badly because Young tried to do it all. If anything, he tried to do more because, except for McNeace, they were all off.

It wasn’t just TY - James went in out of control several times and even walked twice on crazy spin moves. Also James 2-4 from 3 point land Mcgusty 2-3 from 3. Manek 0-1. Guys were hitting 3 point shots. We just started playing “Thunder” ball and went away from our offense.

The turning point in the game, in my opinion. Tying the game would have been big there. Instead they scored two quick baskets, thanks to our in-bounds turnover, and we were left having to climb out of a hole again (got the crowd revved up too).

It was almost such a great play, too, the way he found that lane and took it to the hole.

I don't know if many of you are still watching ESPN tonight, but it is very interesting.

The 3 guys in the studio are basically saying Trae Young is an overrated, really lousy player.

Not a single positive thing about him. They admit he was fouled all day, but insist that if he was any good at all, he would never be impacted by all that. So what if he was hit with a dirty elbow shot to the jaw and no foul called? So what if he was hit with severe force across the top of his head and no foul called? They say if he was any good at all, that would never impact him.

Very interesting. Why do you think they feel that way?

Here is what I know. No one can play to their potential when they are hit, slugged, injured, etc. Why are they afraid to admit that being allowed to do that impacts the game? Why are they saying it actually means the player fouled that way is not very good? Strange.

That's what their script said to say tonight. Their sole purpose is to increase ratings and make money.

It seemed that WV beat us on the boards tonight, not a big margin, but at times it seemed that they were dominating. So,I have a question for anyone who might know:

How much of a project is this kid (Hannas Polla) on the roster from Finland? He is 6'11" and weighs 265 lbs, so was just wondering what his prospects are for contributing this year?

There was a stretch were he missed a dunk, had a bad pass for a tournover, and did not get back to cover who I presume was his guy all within a small time. I may have overstated but it was a bad stretch. He also got posted up a few times and passed on shots on offense. But you could say that for several of the guys.

Not to ruffle any feathers here, but I think it is a little silly how many people seem to think that every announcer and commentator is out to get OU. I despise ESPN for a lot of reasons, but I have never watched a game and felt like the crew was against OU. And to think they are not impressed by Trae is crazy. They have (deservedly) shown him all kinds of love ... probably more than any other college player in recent memory. If someone makes an occasional negative comment about Trae or OU, that doesn't mean they are anti-Sooners. I am surrounded by a ton of thin-skinned Wichita State fans who take offense any time national announcers don't proclaim WSU the greatest team of all time...OU fans shouldn't be that way! Just my two cents, again, not trying to start an argument.

OU led in rebounding most of the game, but in the end WVU finished with one more, 38-37.

Polla ain’t ready for this life, yet

It’s funny bc he still was the best player on the court and had a good game
