Julius randle and Jordan Mickey visiting osu?!?! I think I'm going to be sick. Why are we not at least making an effort with these two. We should be recruiting the hell out of tx and ok. If they don't pick OU, it shouldn't be because of a lack of effort on our part. This is disgusting.

Ok. Just had to get that off my chest.

How do you know we didn't go after both? We did. I can't speak to where we stand with them now, but to suggest we didn't go after them, to some degree, is false.

OU did recruit both.

I think LK is one heckuva coach but those are not the type of kids that OU is going to get under LK.

LK will get good players (high school and transfers) and coach them up, he won't get too many great high school players (Top 30).

Ford hasn't won in 3 years, the program is clearly on the down swing and they just had a player convicted of rape. How does he do that? Seriously. How?

Watch the video. Marble steps? Seriously! Boone's money is performing miracles in Stoolwater.

I couldn't help but wonder why someone doesn't buy a can of WD-40 and fix that squeaky door at the beginning of the video, though? Was that for effect? I stopped watching at the three to four minute mark. Did the girls in bikinis ever show up? :ez-laugh:

"Hasn't won in 3 years?"

Last year was certainly a down year, but we were 20-13 in 2010-11 and we were in the NCAA tournament the previous two years.

I think maybe the bigger picture for OU is - the scholarship situation.
If Cole is put on athletic scholarship, then there are only 4 available next year.
If Henry manages to qualify, then there are only 3 available.

And maybe LK knows he has 3 in mind that are both ideal and attainable. And any hint (on these recruits behalf) of being placed on a backburner is going to miff the most egotistical players. And do we really want those kinds of players?

In other words, if they are worth getting, they'll probably be around to get. I am not worried about it. And I'm not saying either of these two guys are egotistical ('me-first' sort-of players) because I have NO idea. I'm just saying, if they are cooling on OU, maybe it's because that is LK's approach. Maybe he's not making the kind of promises they want to hear...(i.e. "you come to Norman and I'll guarantee you X minutes" or whatever).

Ford's recruiting style seems to be similar to Capel's in casting a wide and bold net. I've seen a ridiculous amount of kids list OSU from all over the country this year in various recruiting articles. I'd wager a guess a lot of those mentioning are kids that don't have true interest in OSU (listing schools like OU and OSU are good ways to boast a kid's stock because they can claim actual high major interest!) or even kids OSU isn't really that interested in.

I think many on this board will point to how Capel's 2010 recruiting class (remember names like Tobias Harris, Terrence Jones, etc?) as testament to how that strategy worked when applied just over a hour south of Stillwater.

Now Ford has proven he can go above his weight class to pull in some prized targets (Nash and Smart) but I'm not sure if its a sustainable tactic at this stage. Capel pulled in some equally impressive talent early on during his tenure, but most of them where more in line to Nash than Smart. (Nash is like a Willie Warren, Tiny Gallon while Smart is like a Blake). If OSU was enjoying more success, than sure, but right now I think OSU is in need of building a foundation, an identity, etc and this isn't a recruiting method that I would choose. Perhaps they are and I'm reading too much into internet speculation but I have to wonder if OSU doesn't produce this year, how long will Ford be in Stillwater?

I'm sure many that enjoy internet speculation might find Kruger's recruiting style "boring" but I find it fascination. In a day and age where the recruiting information seemingly flows from all types of source over the internet, Oklahoma is remarkably quiet till a kid commits.

Look at last year and the recruits brought in, how many 2012 kids visited OU and then chose another school? Forte and Smart are really the only two kids I can say OU legitimately missed last season. Kruger and Co, targeted Hornbeak, Hield, Henry, Cousins, etc and got their targets. That really is remarkable considering that for most of those commits, the OU coaches had only been on the job for 6 months.

Kruger has been doing this a long time and I think he's figured out a way to target the kids that not only would help the program but he knows he can likely get. I'm sure they're be times he'll chase the big dog, Dominic Woodson could be one this year, but overall he isn't going to waste time chasing all over the country.

Lets look at a kid like Mickey as an example. He's a kid OU started showing interest last year, but it appears he didn't reciprocate the interest (at least at a high level), even with playing high school ball with the OU bound Hornbeak. So instead of spending time chasing someone that clearly isn't that interested, they moved on to realistic targets.

I'm sure some will state that for OU to go to final fours and etc they will need to get the big dogs. And maybe down the road that is something Kruger will be able to do. But I'd bet he knows to add onto his house, he needs a stable foundation, which is something I believe his recruiting is doing.

Kruger's recruiting might not be "exciting" in the short term, but I think the long term results have a chance to bring some excitement.

Interesting Sam. I think we need to think back to KS and his best teams having one total NBA player yet he had us winning big games, a regular on national tv , final 8 and a final 4. Who wouldn't take that type of program right now? Lon can do that in a similar fashion, no doubt.

Another way of looking at it.....Lon isn't likely to have many teams that are lead by one complete stud, and couple of solid guys, and a questionable rest of the lineup. I think what you will see is a roster full of guys that can play average to above average ball. That might not be the best way of saying it, but a roster without big holes, full of 2nd tier type guys. I think we can be very successful doing it that way.

I think we should also all wait until the season starts and we see what Lon's first recruiting class looks like before we start screaming that the sky is falling. Cousins, Hield, Hornbeak, M'Baye, and Bennett could all perform above or below expectations.

Some coaches are better at evaluating talent than what the rankings say. Not saying Kruger is one of those coaches, it's a wait and see for me. And, don't get me wrong, I'd love to see recruits like Randle, Mickey, and Smart show more interest in our program. But I'm not going to panic until I see how our new kids perform.

OK. I may have overreacted. This is the Internet after all. I believe in Lon Kruger. I just couldn't believe those players were visiting osu and not considering OU. After reading some replies I would certainly agree with those that describe the recruits Kruger is after. He may very well have contacted them and they showed no interest so he didn't waste his time. I was wrong to have implied anything negative about Kruger or OU.

Keep posting, bro. We all want guys like Randle. Kruger can hopefully put us in a place to be in contention with regional studs sometime soon.

I remember how excited most of us were when Capel signed four burger boys in his first three seasons. We thought we were on top of the world back then. That was before Blake left for the NBA, and the three McDonald's All-Americans on our roster the following year led the team to a pathetic 13-18 record. Please don't tell me some of you have forgotten what a mess we had on our hands that year, on and off the court?

Moral of the story: Signing high-profile players doesn't mean a thing when they're at OU for all of the wrong reasons and the team chemistry is bad.

Sure, it works out sometimes and you have a great year, maybe two. But I'll take Kruger's method of building a program by signing good players who are also good people, any ol' day. I'm very happy with our 2012 recruiting class!

No you didn't, mict. I've asked those same questions more than once. It gripes my rear end to lose a recruit we want to any school, particularly OSU or Kansas.

But when you go through a disappointing season like the one I referenced earlier, you realize that bringing in players that want to be at OU and represent the university with pride, is far more important than how many stars they have by their name.

Dont get caught up in the Name Game. LK wants kids that come in here, work hard, willing and able to accept whatever role is given/earned and do whatever it takes to win.
OSU is going to get some of these guys, and OU will as well, but you dont have to have the #** player to win.
