His improvement and contribution over the past couple of weeks has been really big for this team. He gives them a legitimate shot blocker and a rim protector (and a big man off the bench)...something this team really needed. Hope he continues to improve because I think he could be a main contributor in helping turn this team into a tourney team into a Sweet 16 team.

Any chance he starts next year and lets Spangler slide over to the 4 instead of having Buford start like most are predicting?

He is one injury to Spangler away from playing a LOT of minutes. His improvement has been really good lately. I think he can be serviceable as a backup but I hope the incoming freshmen can add more than he will next year.

Sure, there is a chance. I'm still saying that Bennett has got more than he has shown. Lattin or Buford would be my guess to start inside with Spangler.

Bennett could be next year's senior version of Tyler Neal, with a different skill set. A player that plays his best as a senior, and makes significant contributions to a winning basketball team. He is becoming a fine bench player, but I do not see him as a starter next season.

Bgrch,

Is he still "worthless" like Arent? He looks pretty darn serviceable to me. He gets to workout against The Star Spangled Banger for another year too!

I think you have a plate of crow to eat

Unfortunately, his only real chance to shine will be when Spangler is in foul trouble.

If he continues to improve, that may not be the case next year. There have been some positive signs lately that the light is coming on with D. J.

Is Lattin going to start because Kruger likes to throw freshmen in the fire? Because, I will be surprised if Lattin is better than Bennett next year (barring an injury).

Plus he is likely finally healthy this season. Guessing that is also the reason for the boost.

I think Kruger will start the best player regardless of class. That may also depend on match ups.

The goods news is that Bennett is that we're at least talking about Bennett as a possible starter now. Gary has been saying all along that he has been seeing a different player in practice than we see in the games. Now we know what he meant.

It is just my guess. I wouldn't be surprised if either Lattin or Buford earns a starting job. They will both be automatics to be in the 8 man rotation coming in.

In Bennett's last 6 games he is 8-9 from the field and has 18 points, 12 rebounds, 6 blocks and 2 steals in 44 minutes.

I think it's a better "fit" for what LK wants to do if Buford or Lattin can come in and start at the 4. If Bennett really does deserve more minutes, he can still get them off the bench. Be nice to have some quality big man bench depth next season.

DJ is starting to look like I had hoped he might. Great job protecting the rim last night, several blocks and altered even more I thought his energy off the bench early was a huge part of that game.

Yeah, I'm real happy the way he's playing. He definitely is helping our team. And, it looks like he's getting better and better as season goes along. It's harder to come off the bench and produce than to start, IMO, so that makes what's he doing even more impressive to me.

I'm on pins and needles awaiting his (bgrch) reply.

Same with Spangler who he said was not good enough to start in the big 12.

Honestly...Watching this team..I don't think any player is worthless under Kruger. You just don't know when its going to happen but it has happen to every player so far under Kruger and thats they take a huge leap forward. Clark and Neal from last year to this. Bennett from 10 games ago to now.

Its good to be wrong. He gets to compete against Lattin and Buford as well. He's giving great minutes.

We're 17-4 and second in the conference.
I doubt you'll see him around much...

EDIT: WELL APPARENTLY I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. Look at that timing...

Takes a big man to admit when he is wrong. Props. Hopefully DJ will continue to improve!
