Capel interviewing at Clemson? Wants out of Oklahoma?

Just when things couldn’t seem to get weirder for the OU men’s basketball program, they do.
Sooner coach Jeff Capel was believed to be interviewing for the vacant head coaching job Friday, along with Baylor coach Scott Drew, according to the Post and Courier (Charleston, S.C.), which cited an unnamed source.
Clemson’s job came open when Oliver Purnell left for DePaul earlier in the week.
This report is unconfirmed, so it’s unclear if Capel actually did speak with Clemson officials. But it makes sense for Capel, a North Carolina native, who played at Duke and coached at Virginia Commonwealth prior to leaving for OU in 2006.
But the Post and Courier cited a “well-placed” source that said Capel wants out of Oklahoma, whether he pursues the Clemson job or the Wake Forest job, which is also vacant.
For OU, it’s more speculation that continues to swirl around a program seemingly in turmoil, with three underclassmen having already left the school, along with assistant coach Oronde Taliaferro, who resigned suddenly earlier this week. Taliaferro’s phone records have apparently become part of an undisclosed investigation of the men’s basketball program. It’s unclear whether that investigation is linked to the one stemming from a report that freshman forward Tiny Gallon received a $3,000 wire transfer from a financial adviser.
Capel has yet to speak with reporters since his team was knocked out of the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City exactly a month ago, capping the school’s first losing season in 29 years.
