Capel to speak about OU basketball situation today at 2:30

Hey guys, I just checked the website and my company has the listen to me live link blocked
Could one of you guys post a recap as it goes please!

A press conference to announce you quit would be rare, but not unheard of before in sports.

It has to be happening because SOMETHING has been cleared up. Tiny leaving. The NCAA probe is official and we are in trouble or clear (although I think Joe C. would be having that not Jeff).

If it's just a state of the program presser, it could get pretty tense with Capel not being able to answer many questions -- or not willing to.

When you think a bit about it, resignation does seem somewhat likely. He's a good guy who had people below him do bad things so for the good of the program, he's leaving.

Perhaps...I need time away to evaluate my career and my life, etc....

who knows. Got to be spec somewhere.

He is not announcing his resignation.

I actually am wondering if it's not just to get him in front of the press as a response to all the talk about his silence. Obviously I am just speculating, but I'm wondering if he'll even be able to address the investigation at this point. I hope so.

^
This.

I doubt seriously if Coach Capel is going to say anything about Tiny Gallon's situation at this point. I think it's way to early for that. I'm betting he will address recruiting concerns, without mentioning recruits by name, and other issues that have affected the program the past few months. It will be an attempt to calm the storm, and one that is sorely needed right now. In fact, it's overdue.

I hope someone asks him how he expects to compete for a big 12 title with his current roster.

I'm more curious is they'll have enough players to practice. As this rate, they'll be playing w/4 if they get in foul trouble.

The current roster will not be complete until the April signing period is over. But I would be very disappointed if Capel's answer to that question was one of despair, should someone ask him. Coaches usually leave "no hope" scenarios to the fans. lol

He is not announcing his resignation.

Exactly! The chances of that are slim and none.

Yep, that's a great idea, that will help recruiting. Tell everyone your program is a mess.

Not sure why that made me laugh so hard.

Whatever he says, it somewhat goes against the supposed "gag order" that Murdoch said he was under. I absolutely have to believe that message boards spurred on the discussion by the media which in turned spurred on this press conference.

There have been 2 bad years under Capel. After next season, there will probably be 3 out of 5 years that OU has not made any post season.

Whether or not you find that acceptable is up to you....

i guess it depends on what you call a bad year.

even by your definition 3 out of 5 years being bad doesn't make OU a bad program.

I never said we were a bad program, I said Capel should apologize for what he's done to what was once a very good program. Big difference.

ok. having 3 our of 5 seasons being bad, doesn't change OUs status as a very good program.

We went 1-5 against the north this year and we are on a 9 game losing streak. Lost 3 of the last 4 to the aggies and finished 4-12 in conference after we were picked to finish top 4 in preseason.

We are losing our top juco targets and looking at the leftovers for commits now. Other conference programs are passing us up as we slide down.

If this trend continues very long we will have one hell of a hole to climb up out of. The fall from the penthouse to the outhouse might come next year.

Kinda wish he woulda done something like this weeks ago.
