I only remember him saying "message boards" one time during the whole presser.
"You don't hear people criticize Dakota Fanning."
All-righty then.
I agree with you. If he is busting his rear recruiting (which apparently he is), that is certainly more important than giving press conferences, especially when he can't talk about the investigation anyway.Well to play Devil's advocate, he did say that he's been working and that he doesn't sit around reading message boards. Do I think he needed to do this before now? Probably. Do I find it absolutely egregious that he didn't? No. I'd rather him be recruiting than having press conferences. Not that his recruiting efforts have done much for us (yet).

Mr. B said:If you were him and had read the stuff on here for the last month, you'd be derisive as well. Just sayin'...but he should have done this a month ago.
It was about players leaving early. He said that no one criticizes Dakota Fanning or tennis players for not going to college. A fair point, though funny to hear.
If you compiled a list of names least likely to hear at an OU basketball press conference Dakota Fanning would probably rank right up there with Louie Anderson and Bruce Vilanch.
The Dakota Fanning statement is puzzling to me.
Dakota Fanning wasn't ever a University "student-actress". She didn't commit to "act" on a University acting team, enroll in the University, allow the University to pay for her room/books/meals/travel, act for one year and then the first sniff of Hollywood, quit going to classes and run off to audition for a blockbuster movie (with the option of heading to Bollywood if that didn't work out).
What does it mean for a student athlete to "commit" to a University? Apparently, in some cases, it doesn't mean much.
I think he was wondering aloud why it's perfectly okay for actors to pursue their professional dreams, but not college basketball players.
It had nothing to do with how student athletes represent their institution.
Me too, actually, because I was listening for it. I've heard him talk before about how he doesn't read message boards, which isn't true.
I guess. If he wanted to be derisive of me I think that would be pretty appropriate and understandable, I just don't like how he always dismisses them all out of hand. OUHoops pays for this site out of his pocket, as far as I know, for no reason other than to promote OU basketball. Soonersam and Big Time drive out-of-state to report on potential Sooners on their own dime, just because the love Oklahoma basketball. The mods endure endless *****ing on their own time (sometimes for me!) for the same reason. And for that the thanks they get "I don't read message boards." Really don't understand how hard it would be to say "You know, as with anything, there is a lot of stuff on the internet that is over-the-top, but you also see some really great, creative stuff that people do for no reason other than to help this program out."
Thank you, Tony! I don't know about all message boards, but this site was created for one primary reason: To promote OU basketball! And, yes, OUHoops paid for it out of his own pocket. He also pays the server fees every month. I'm not sure why. A love for the program, I suppose. I'll let him answer that question.
I wonder myself why any of us devote so much time and energy to a program that refuses to give us the time of day, much less the respect we deserve? But, that's just me. I don't pretend to speak for OUHoops or any member of the staff here. All I know is that I'm tired of staying quiet and always positive. If that makes me a bad person, so be it.
