Colby Daniels tweeet (Kruger Retiring!)

Beard hasn't really had a run at Tech. He had two very good seasons, but before and after, hasn't been anything special.

Outside of Bobby Knights 4 year run to start at Tech though, Tech's always been a pretty average at best program.

Dickey had 2 years of 20+ wins in 10 seasons, Gerald Myers was there over 20 years and had three 20 win seasons.

Tubby Smith might've gotten them on solid ground, had he stuck around. His final season there was decent.

I'm not knocking Beard. I consider him a quality coach (though I question how clean a program he runs). But on this board, he's often treated as an elite coach (and generally by the same posters who went out of their way to shoot down any attempt to give Coach Kruger even minimal credit). If I had a dollar for every time Tech was cited as one of the programs that supposedly had left us in the dust, drinks, dinner and dessert would be on me.

Would you be displeased if OU hired Beard?

I mean, I get what you are saying, but since Beard has been at TT, here is the comparison:

Overall Record
OU: 84-71 (54%)
TT: 112-55 (67%)

Big 12 Record
OU: 38-51 (43%)
TT: 49-40 (55%)

Big 12 Finish (most recent first)
OU: T6, T3, T7, T8, 9
TT: T6, T3, T1, T2, T7

NCAA Tournament
OU: Made (or would have) tournament 4/5 years. OU lost in the first round once, and the second round twice.

TT: Made (or would have) tournament 4/5 years. TT lost in the second round once, made an Elite 8, and made the Championship game.

Considering that this comparison is between Beard's first 5 years at TT vs Lon's 6th thru 10th seasons at OU, that is a pretty big variance in results.

I'm not suggesting it will happen or that it even should, but what would you all think of Greg McDermott? His "comment" this year certainly tarnishes him a bit, but he is one heck of a coach. What keeps him at Creighton?

and two weeks ago you said relying on the transfer market is not a place you want to be. Jesus Christ man

It's not a place you want to be every year.... but this is a weird year. It's like mass transfer season this year and everyone has extra eligibility because of Covid.

Don't get so upset... You don't have to like Frank Haith. Nobody is asking you to like Frank Haith, and I didn't even bring him up. You did. I haven't brought him up in a long time. You keep bringing him up though.

You can like whoever you want... If you want to talk about who you like, I would be happy to discuss that with you.

The comment is problematic... and if I remember correctly he didn't have a great run at ISU, but I could be wrong on that.

Correct. He was either fired or pushed out at Iowa State.

He's had a really good run at Creighton, but it would be hard for OU to sell a coach that didn't do so well at Iowa State.

It's not surprising that you would omit Kruger's best seasons -- you have long exhibited an inexplicable aversion to giving him even the tiniest bit of credit, which surely explains your annual disappearance from this board any time a Kruger-coached team was going well.

So I'll fill in the blanks for you: In his first five seasons at OU, Lon Kruger's teams went 111-57 (66%) overall, 52-38 (58%) in conference, and made it to the Sweet Sixteen and the Final Four.

His conference finishes were 8, T4, 2, T2, 3.

Would you be displeased if OU hired Beard?

Yes, because he sets off my slimeball alarm. If someone could prove to me that I was wrong about his character and how he runs his program, then I'd be ok with him being hired, but I wouldn't see him as any kind of step up from Kruger. I'm not alarmed at the prospect of him being hired at texas, assuming we get a good coach ourselves. And if we don't, we'll have bigger problems than Beard in burnt orange.

Mills is going to have to get a hard look especially if they beat Arky, looks like he has an eye for talent with the Absmas guy and O’Banner

Agreed. He runs a fun/modern offense and plays to the strength of his best players (Abmas and Obanor). His record has also improved each year at ORU.

I knew that would be your reply.

Here is your comment that I was replying to:

If Beard is the guy directing TT to that improvement over OU, WHY IN THE WORLD would I look at stats from before he got to TT? "Left us in the dust".....your words not mine, but that can only be measured in terms of when they started doing that, which was when they hired Beard.

So yes, IN THE FIVE YEARS SINCE BEARD HAS BEEN AT TT, they have been considerably better than us. I suppose those 5 years would not have predicted the future had both coaches remained at their schools, but it's dang sure a trend.

it's dang sure a trend.

Here's Beard's trend -- a five seed in the Big 12 tourney two years in a row, while OU had a three and a six. His NCAA title game is receding in the rear view mirror, just as Lon's did.

Some of the same posters on this board who were already critical of Lon two years after his Final Four still genuflect before Beard as if he's been to the Final Four three years running.

I'm all for him after watching the way he adjusted & drew up that last ORU play. Didn't work but damn, that was nice.

Can Lon Kruger give Eric musselman a call and get him to come to OU?
