Colby Daniels tweeet (Kruger Retiring!)

Lon is a great man and we should all be thankful for his contributions to OU basketball. I wish him well in all things and I’m grateful he turned around the program after the capel disaster.

It seems the time is right for him to retire. I do have concerns about Joe C hiring process and him being caught a little unprepared. I’m afraid of the knee jerk hire and settle for another capel disaster. We need to get this right.

Re: Kruger retiring

Lon will be missed! Good luck in your retirement and thanks for your hard work at OU.

Joe Golding (Abilene Christian)
Grant McCasland (North Texas)
Craig Smith (Utah State)
Niko Medved (Colorado State)
Mark Turgeon (Maryland)

Seemed like they think McCasland makes the most sense.

The writer also seems to think Hartman a legitimate candidate.

Would Chris Beard at Tech consider us if the money were right? That guy can really coach. Also wouldn’t mind pursuing one of these hotshot Pac 12 coaches.

I'm happy for Lon that he will get to do what not every coach has the privilege of - retiring on his own. I'll always appreciate his contributions, which include getting us out of a huge NCAA jam (by just saying YES to Joe C), restoring credibility to the OU men's basketball program, and giving the fans another Final Four memorable season.

As for Chris Beard, put yourself in his shoes. He took a school in the middle of nowhere with limited basketball tradition, and took them to the title game. I can't see him leaving TTech until a top-10 job comes calling.

I'm confident Joe C will make a great hire. No one bats a thousand...but he has a lot more hits than misses.

I think you can cross Turgeon off the list. The others are certainly possibilities.

IMO it all depends on how much they willing to open the check book, getting a top notch coach here will not be a easy task. I think they may go young and hungry and pay much less than Lon
Thanks Lon, Good Luck

Re: Colby Daniels tweeet

Lead assistant is overrated. I've watched enough UH games to see that Q is plenty involved in things.

Bob Stoops had never been a head coach before OU either.

Scott Drew only had one year of HC experience before Baylor hired him.

Mark Few had no HC experience before Gonzaga hired him.

Juwan Howard had no HC experience before Michigan.

Those three guys all have #1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament this year.

bob national champ D coord

baylor a program in the dumps when they made that hire

few the led ast at Gonzaga

howard .. legand player at michigan and veteran NBA coach

yeah q white does not compare

I think that any time your head coach is over 65 you should at least have a list of potential candidates that you add to and delete from every year. I doubt that he thought he would be searching for a new coach for the men and a new coach for the women at the same time, though!

Bring Back Kelvin!!! Can't believe its page 5 and no one has said this yet

He's on the dream hire list that isn't reasonable. Add a few guys like Buzz, Moser, Hoiberg, and Archie to that list.

Ulric Maligi is a name I'm intrigued by in the realistic category.

lon had 1 "bad" year at OU 2016-2017 pretty fantastic

Uh, that's what I was thinking..

Haha... A long time ago a lot of us were over on the OU-Insider board (known as the James Hale board).... When a band of rebels led by AdaSooner and a few others seceded and created their own board.

Then, one by one, many of the regulars (like me) from over there came to this forum.

Since then some have fallen off, stopped posting, been banned, or unfortunately are deceased. This was a LONG TIME AGO.

lmao

Surely you don't believe that?

2012 was bad. Okay, his first year.

2018 was pretty bad. 18-14. 8-10 in Big 12 play. 10 seed. Lose to Rhode Island. All of this with a top 5 NBA pick on the roster.

38-51 in conference play in the 5 years since Buddy left.

That is not good.
