Colby Daniels tweeet (Kruger Retiring!)

Re: Colby Daniels tweeet

Lead assistant is overrated. I've watched enough UH games to see that Q is plenty involved in things.

Bob Stoops had never been a head coach before OU either.

Scott Drew only had one year of HC experience before Baylor hired him.

Mark Few had no HC experience before Gonzaga hired him.

Juwan Howard had no HC experience before Michigan.

Those three guys all have #1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament this year.

Thank you for answering this much more succinctly than I could have.

Re: Colby Daniels tweeet

Im telling you it sped things up. Not suggesting. This was coming as of tuesday.

Just as I feared. Which leaves Joe C. scrambling to make the new hire.

I'm sure he's been the question some thought and done some reaearch in recent years -- I'm not suggesting he's starting at square one -- but if he thought he still had one-to-three years to work on it and is suddenly tasked with making a hire now, that's problematic.

Especially since we are now almost certain to lose our seniors (though, admittedly, we may have, anyway). We might also be at risk of losing Cortes and Noland and, who knows, maybe one or more of the guys on our current roster. It's so very easy to move on now, it's more of a concern than it once was.

Wait, has anyone heard from Billy Gillespie lately? Hahaha

If not Quannis then hire Kelvin’s lead assistant. I would think he’s ready. Believe it will be McCasland though.

Man, this news stinks. I fear we're in for a huge slide in our basketball prospects.

it would happen whenever a coach leaves...the only thing that could have been better was for kruger to announce at the beginning of this season, this would be his last.

Maybe just maybe it'll be the start of something better in the "long" run...

Kelvin's lead assistant is his son, Kellen, who is also the HC in waiting at Houston. So he's going nowhere.

I met Kelvin a few times. I think that makes me qualified in the eyes of some. :)

Ironic to see a coach being part of Sampson's tree as sufficient for some, given how thoroughly Kelvin was trashed by some on this board for much of his time at OU.

Would Chris Beard at Tech consider us if the money were right? That guy can really coach. Also wouldn’t mind pursuing one of these hotshot Pac 12 coaches.

I don't know if you remember back all this time, but I was a huge Sampson homer back then... Roles were reversed. :)

I don't remember, but i believe you. I was a huge Sampson supporter, too. He only lost me when he left for Indiana (after getting us on probation); I thought that a dishonorable move on his part (though I've gotten over it -- I have wished him well throughout his post IU career).

It’s a pay article. What does it say?

Joe Golding (Abilene Christian)
Grant McCasland (North Texas)
Craig Smith (Utah State)
Niko Medved (Colorado State)
Mark Turgeon (Maryland)

Seemed like they think McCasland makes the most sense.
