Colby Daniels tweeet (Kruger Retiring!)

Re: Colby Daniels tweeet

I like Lon, too. He’s a fine man and we owe him a great deal of gratitude for what he has done for our basketball program. But, it would be selfish of me to expect him to continue as our coach much longer.

If Lon told Joe C. last fall that this would be his last season, I'll feel better about things. If he decided after his son got his new job, I won't. Because we saw what happened the last time Joe C. found himself having to hire a coach on short notice.

I'm happy for Coach Kruger. He obviously has every right to do what's right for him and his family, and I knew he wouldn't be around forever, but I do think sufficient notice is key, and if Joe C. is having to rush his search due to a lack of notice -- yikes. If Coach Kruger's press conference today was to announce that 21/22 would be his last season, I'd feel a whole lot better about it than if it's truly that he's leaving now.

Re: Colby Daniels tweeet

joe c and our compliance are not going anywhere near pitino

I have a feeling SKINS was not saying Joe should consider Pitino for the job. They’re both too smart for that.

Re: Colby Daniels tweeet

I'd call Dana Altmann! McCasland at UNT will have to be considered. Is Quannas the second assistant behind Kellen or vice versa?

Re: Colby Daniels tweeet

Even though he will get his named tossed around because ORU is hot, i like the idea of their coach. Scott Drew has a pretty successful coaching tree, and the guy has texas ties. I would prefer him, or the NT coach, over someone from back east or upper midwest.

It depends on who the prospects are. If, for example, a prospect is the coach from North Texas then the opportunity to elevate to a P5 program creates its own allure and time is less of the essence. Same applies to assistants. It's a different story for coaches from prominent programs.

Re: Colby Daniels tweeet

Hire a search firm like they did with Stoops and do it the right way. If we lose a half a class so be it..

Q is the second assistant. I struggle to see how he is the right man to hire. Other than spending two years here as a player two decades ago, nothing else makes him remotely qualified. Never been a head coach or even a lead assistant, isn’t from OK, hasn’t been in the state in years. And I say this even though he is one of my favorite OU players ever.

And I’m not directing those comments at you, it’s just that his name has been thrown out by others who seem to want him.

Did they hire a search firm or just consult Chuck Neinas? Neinus used to be the guru for football coach searches.

Re: Colby Daniels tweeet

Jeff Capel begs to disagree.

I wish I had faith in Joe C. in this case, because I think he's a great AD. But he blew it badly in hiring Capel and then had to pay through the nose to get Coach Kruger to come in and clean up the mess.

College hoops is slimy through and through, and there aren't that many coaches out there that can be counted on to do things the right way. I think it's been underappreciated by many that we had a guy at the helm we didn't have to worry about getting us on probation. That's very likely over now.

If you can’t trust joe c to make the right hire then you can’t trust anyone. He is the undisputed greatest athletic director of all time.

Re: Colby Daniels tweeet

Seems like he got mentioned both times OU had an opening before also. Joe C seems to like him but no thanks also.

not for it either, but it feels like such a joe c thing to do. so i wouldn't be surprised, especially if turgeon reaches out.

You are right and that is what I meant, maybe it wasn't an all out firm. Not sure if there is a Neinas of college basketball. But that guy was the foremost CF hiring guru back then.

I’m with you now. All valid points to be sure. I have a feeling this news did not come as a surprise to Joe C. That doesn’t sound like Lon Kruger to me.

Judging by all accounts, his new multi-million dollar home in Vegas is empty. It’s not likely he planned to rent it out for the next year or two. UNLV hiring Kevin might have shortened the time line some, but I’m betting Joe C already knew about Lon’s plans. If not, I’ll be disappointed, too.

Kruger retiring

So sorry if this has already been discussed, but I just got an alert Kruger retired.

He plans to move back to Vegas to be close to his son who recently took the UNLV head coaching position.

Who do we hire?

Both men and women's bb looking for new coaches, exciting times!!

Re: Colby Daniels tweeet

<runs away giggling>
