Colby Daniels tweeet (Kruger Retiring!)

Re: Kruger retiring

I have no idea but there are several top quality coaches Joe C. could hire. But to get a coach that can provide the result approaching what Billy and Kelvin accomplished will likely cost Joe C. more money than what he was paying Lon ($2.4 mil on a 7 year $16.6 mil contract).

A question becomes will Joe C. spend the likely additional close to $2 million dollars it is going to take to hire a MBB & WBB coach that will meet fan expectations remembering the early Sherri Coale along with Billy and Kelvin set the standards.

But for certain I was ready for his departure as the Sooners have finished 6th, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th the last 5 years. That is not Sooner basketball in my eyes.

Gregg Marshall?

<runs away giggling>

If he had a vowel at the end of his name I would not think twice of him having ties with the mafioso/cosa nostra.

Re: Colby Daniels tweeet

Would hate this if true. I’ll go on record that our program will be in worse shape three years down the road unless we make a home run hire.

I'll go on record and say wow thats a bold statement. You mean if Joe C doesn't hire the right guy our program could be worse.

Re: Colby Daniels tweeet

I have always had the deepest respect for Coach Kruger. He came in and cleaned up the mess. I'm glad he's going out on his terms.

I hope we can find someone young and energetic that can recruit. I think Quannas White is intriguing.

Top 40 coaches under 40. This list is almost a year old but it's a good starting point.

What about Chris Ogden at UT Arlington? I know nothing of him but he is mentioned here.

I don't know anything about any of them specifically, but a Gonzaga assistant might be interesting.

Gerry McNamara? Been around a winning program. Might could bring their zone to the Big 12. Probably wouldn't enjoy the midwest, and would likely struggle to recruit.

The toughest challenge is finding somebody that will be able to recruit this area. Guys that have ties all over the NE or West coast, that probably doesn't help them here. That is why guys like McCasland and White keep being mentioned, they have ties to this part of the country. I'd love somebody from the Kelvin tree, but outside of possibly White, I don't think anybody else makes sense.

Re: Colby Daniels tweeet

Quannas won’t even get an interview people. Get real this isn’t a learn on the job program. It isn’t duke or unc but we will hire a legit head coach. Quannas should submit his resume for an assistant Job though.

What has he done that qualifies him? He's not the lead assistant at UH. He's never been a head coach.

I love him for what he accomplished as a player at OU, but if he had exactly the same qualifications as he does today, but with a different name, would we even give him a second look?

I really like the Gonzaga guy from that list, but he's never been outside the Pacific NW. Grew up there. Went to school there. Went to college there. Coaches there.

But he has a rep as a good recruiter.

12. Brian Michaelson, Gonzaga assistant (38)

Has been in the Gonzaga family since 2000, when he joined the basketball team as a walk-on. He returned to Mark Few's program in 2008 and eventually became an assistant coach under Few in 2013. Michaelson has quietly been a key part of the Bulldogs' recruiting success over the past several seasons, and he led the charge for 2020 guard Jalen Suggs, Gonzaga's highest-ranked recruit ever. -- Jeff Borzello

Re: Colby Daniels tweeet

Both can be true.

Looking back, there were signs of this earlier in the year. Kevin didn't know he was getting that job earlier in the year. But yeah, I agree that probably didn't hurt in speeding things along.

Im telling you it sped things up. Not suggesting. This was coming as of tuesday.

Lead assistant is overrated. I've watched enough UH games to see that Q is plenty involved in things.

Bob Stoops had never been a head coach before OU either.

Scott Drew only had one year of HC experience before Baylor hired him.

Mark Few had no HC experience before Gonzaga hired him.

Juwan Howard had no HC experience before Michigan.

Those three guys all have #1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament this year.

Exactly. Being in Sampson's program both as a player and assistant for a combined better part of a decade is good enough for me.

Do yourself a favor and forget his name for this hire as head coach. He won’t even get a phone call.
