Daimion Collins - now leaning toward Kentucky

I’m not disappointed in the guys we have in this class. I’m disappointed that we aren’t going to sign anyone else of that caliber.

Considering all the great players was in on early, you’ve got to call this a class a disappointment. I’m a big fan of the 2 we got, but to miss on everyone else is a letdown. I guess the question now is what happens to the scholarships and if we go for more transfers.

Auburn
Alabama
Stanford
Baylor
Tennessee
Oregon
UCLA
Florida State x2

Three SEC schools one of which has Bruce Pearl who has a known history of breaking rules. Barnes has always recruited great just look at his Texas teams.
A couple of the others aren't exactly thought to be choir boys in recruiting.

Hopefully Collins sticks with us but can't blame him if he wants to play for the Cats. What we would be saying if a 5 star football guy chose Kentucky over OU?

OU basketball >>>>>>>>>>>>> Kentucky football. And then some more.

That's very disappointing! Alexander had a great opportunity with OU but if they don't want it so be it. He is good but not that good.

Stevie Clark was a guy who wanted to play games. LK had pulled the offer and the family showed back up in the coaches offices wanting to talk. LK told Mom Clark that you don't understand Stevie doesn't have an offer to play here. Unfortunately Stevie had a disappointing career when he was very similar to Trey in high school.

I like the two we got. Hard to see us taking it to the next level, though. Feels like we're going to be stuck in P5 mediocrity for the foreseeable future, which has not been our standards for about 40 years. Call me spoiled, but I miss being able to consistently have winning records in conference.

Number 1 recruit on the board is Brady Manek.

We all live in uncertain times and this includes Brady. It is not inconceivable that he stays another year instead of it being automatic that he purchases a plane ticket to Europe as if it were just another walk in the park.

making the dance every year is not "P5 mediocrity"

No, it isn’t.

That’s not to say we should be satisfied with less than a deep run in the dance. But there are plenty of schools in every conference, including P5 schools, who would gladly take our place.

The focus of a certain faction on this board on conference wins above every other metric, while ignoring all of the team's other achievements, continues apace.

If we lost four more non-conference games this season and won four more conference games but missed out on the tourney, would they be happy? They'd have to be, one would think, based on their now-seasons-long focus on our conference record. But I suspect if that scenario played out, they'd quickly adjust their focus, bemoaning those non-conference losses that kept us out of the tourney.

Who is ignoring every other metric? Overall record, conference record, tournament record...they all wreak of mediocrity. The fact that many on here want to hang their hat on squeaking into the NCAA tourney without making any noise shows how far our expectations have plummeted over the past 15 years. Going to a Final Four was great, but a decade of basketball yielding only one 25+ win season does not break through the mediocrity barrier.

Bottom line to me: if you ask every D1 coach in America if they would trade places with us over the past decade, or since Capel was fired, the VAST majority would say yes in a heartbeat. Right or wrong, making the tournament is the biggest goal for basically every program. Maybe 8 to 10 teams realistically have higher goals each season, meaning they expect to Sweet 16 or beyond. ADs and coaches all prioritize making the tournament over any other measure. And I bet 95 percent of coaches and ADs and fans don’t even know their teams conference record without looking it up, while almost everyone knows how often their team dances.

An overall record of 166-106 and conference record of 73-73. We've won NCAA tournament games in 3 of 9 seasons. That wreaks of P5 mediocrity.

We’ve gone to the ncaa in what should be 7 of those 9 years? There are only like 30 or so P5 teams in the tournament each year. To be the the top ~30 of the country 7 of 9 years is not close to mediocrity. It’s going to take the bagman to get on Kentucky’s level, simple as that.

I made sure to say P5 mediocrity rather than D1 mediocrity. There's no question that our program is well above average compared to the rest of the country. I think we were a top 15 program during the Tubbs/Sampson tenure. I do not feel we've been top 25 since their departure.

Fair enough but compare us to other P5 teams. I think about six have as good a track record as we do as far as making the tournament. Some other schools have had a random year where they win their league or finish in the top two or three, but also have many years where they miss the dance. I am confident every college player would rather play on four NCAA teams than have one really good seasons and two or three crappy ones that end in the NIT or worse.

there are only about 10-15 teams that wouldn't trade their last 10 years with OU's last 10 years ..
