Declined NIT Bids

Maybe OU could play the Oklahoma Aggies a 4th time in the NIT.
Has a team ever lost 4 times in 1 season to an opponent?
What an accomplishment that would be.

I’d rather play than not play. But teams declining bids makes me think the NIT won’t last a lot longer (at least as an NCAA sponsored and paid for event).

And, the semis and finals are no longer in New York. This year, the semis and finals are at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

The NIT still has value for teams that won smaller leagues but lost in their conference tournament. But, for major conference teams, the value is mixed, especially in the era of the portal.

The NIT has no value for OU. I certainly don’t want to watch this **** show any longer. Don’t care for it. Won’t watch it. The program is dying.

OSU playing on the road against Youngstown State?

So now that we weren’t even selected for the NIT, is it safe to say that we (a) had an awful season and (b) weren’t close to making the NCAA Tournament? I’m quite happy we can officially close the book on a sorry season.

Glad it’s over. I have no optimism about next year. It will be another terrible season. How bad must it get before we make a coaching change?

Just for the sake of information, OU beat KSU four times during the 1978-79 season. That was when the Big 8 had that preseason holiday tournament. I think that was the last season they had one.

First time since the 1965-66 season that OU has had a losing season in both football and men's basketball.

Getting primed and ready for that move to the SEC. Next year is going to be one of the more important OU sports seasons for the big 2 to show some major steps forward. Unacceptable the results this season.

Dayton declined as well.

Someone told me we were still within a very long eyelash.

Considering we finished 53 in KP.

Teams in the NIT:

Team Rank
OSU - 38
Rutgers - 37
Oregon - 41
UNT - 45
Mich - 46
UNC* - 47
Liberty - 48
UNM - 52
Cincy - 54
Wash St - 57
Colo - 59
Nova - 60
UAB - 62
Florida - 63
Clemson - 64
UCF - 65
SHSU - 69
Seton Hall - 70
Wisc - 76
Dayton* - 78
Vand - 80
VT - 81
*denotes declined postseason bids

12 Teams selected after OU's rank. (I don't follow NIT selection closely enough, so feel free to correct me on Auto-bids)

Fun Facts:
-2 of our OOC losses and 2 of our OOC wins are in.
-OU's record vs teams in the NIT is 2-5.

It seems like NIT either said "No sub-500 teams" OR we declined it. I could be wrong here, but just based of rankings, that line of thinking seems to track.

only auto bids would be teams winning their Conference regular season and losing in their conf tourney and not making the NCAA

I appreciate that Boulder, I mostly meant on teams I left out of the list that were at-large bids and not auto bids. Or maybe one I included by accident.

you can say whatever you want ..

it is not true but you can say it .

I’ve always respected your opinion, but this is an embarrassing position for you to take. 36 teams get at large bids to the NCAA Tournament. 20-21 got at large bids to the NIT. When you add in the teams that got auto bids who were miles ahead of us in every ranking, we weren’t among the 65-70 top teams in the country. I have no clue why you would want to argue that we were close.

36+21 = 57

OU was ranked 53 in KP, barttorvik has us at 50, 68 in NET (which the committee does not care about as much), evanmiya has us at 68, ESPN BPI has us at 62, and Massey has us at 63.

So in some way we are one of: +4 in, +7 in, -5 out, -6 out, or -11 out.

Clearly the NIT was not about having a sub-.500 team in or use their own table.
