That we are putting all of our hopes of being better next year into a guy that averages 9 ppg in junior college (and is 3 years removed from high school) and a guy who averaged 4 ppg and 2 rpg at Mississippi State?

I mean, I believe in these guys too and have them penciled in as starters, but it is kinda funny that all of our hopes are with them for next season. Thread after thread, everyone points to Goff and Osby as big reasons why this team is going to get a lot better next year.

I don't know that we would be all that excited about them in a normal situation until they proved themselves. Or maybe we would? I dont know.

I agree. Their numbers are not very impressive. Didn't Nick Thompson put up similar or better numbers?

I don't get how anyone can say Jeff Capel is this great recruiter. Now granted I don't follow recruiting but most of his recruits haven't really done that much at OU. WW was real good at times. Blake was great. Cade Davis is good. TMG was a cancer. Gallon was good at times but not consistent. Pattillo was good when he played but couldn't make the grades. All of his other recruits didn't do much.

You put all your hopes in guys who average 30 in juco and then average 2pts a game when the go d1 like Kendall Durant. It's obvious Osby will be the most talented guy on the roster. I have never seen anyone put hopes in Goff. Your the second person to say that but theirs no evidence of that. I think it's a combination of multiple players that have certain tangibles like rebounding above the rim, catch and dunking, breaking a press with dribble, or high level shot blocking ability. We don't have those guys and Goff and Osby can do some of those things.

You act like the guys currently on our roster have already hit their ceiling, which is nowhere close to the truth. A year of experience and an offseason will do wonders for these young guys, plus a summer spent with :yoyo

Hasnt seemed to help pledger to much....

I guess you're basing this just on his shooting ability?

Pledger isn't a superstar or great player by any means, but in my opinion, he's definitely made improvement in just his overall understanding of the game and defensively. He's also improved at getting to the rim instead of relying on his jumper

Are you blind?

Ya, because mentioning him 2-3 times on this board means that I put all my hopes into him, lol. Im just a fan, im not a recruiting expert or a college coach.

Whats worse, a fan thinking OU could use a point guard like Kendall Durant or a coach actually signing guys like Kyle Hardrick, Ray Willis, Kyle Cannon, Orlando Allen, Tony Neysmith, and other guys who cant play. Shouldnt a D-1 coach know better?

Sure, I messed up on a player, which apparently you have either never done or find really funny for some reason, lol. Durant isnt good, we get it. But damn, you have mentioned him more in threads trying to be an ass more than I did before he signed with an SEC school.

It's obvious Osby will be the most talented guy on the roster.

It's obvious? How can that be obvious? He averaged 4/2 as a sophomore at Mississippi State. I am not saying you are wrong, he might be. But how can that be obvious at this point?

You act like the guys currently on our roster have already hit their ceiling, which is nowhere close to the truth.

I didnt say that... Cameron Clark, Tyler Neal, and Calvin Newell have high ceilings.

I know you didn't say it, but your post seems to imply that next year our current players will have the exact same game without improvement.

Secondly, Carl Blair doesn't have a high ceiling? He gets his turnovers under control and he's a really solid point guard.

I think Fitzgerald has the potential to be an All Big XII honorable mention type guy by his senior season. I don't think he will ever make first or second string because young guys will come in that are better and there are others in the league that are better but if he improves on defense and rebounding he could be a pretty darn good college basketball player. He can clearly score points and is only half way through his sophomore year. Quite frankly, Fitzgerald can make a good living playing basketball (overseas) if he works hard.

You know what's funny ABD, some on this board may have amnesia about your copy and paste stats, but your boy DM doesn't. Last year when Marquise Carter emerged as a prospect, you were leading the charge, let's go get him. Well it turns out that Carter is not making any type of impact at Gonzaga. Infact he's getting beat out by sophomore Demetri Goodson who chose Gonzaga over OU. Kendall Durant, a guy you continued to copy and paste his elaborate juco numbers over the last couple of years is at Alabama, getting beat out by a very good kid who chose Alabama over OU in Trevor Releford. Then we have Khalil McDonald, the guard out of Blinn jc that again, you swore was such a talented player because he had great juco numbers. Dude is averaging 3pts at Western Kentucky and getting beat out by a kid OU would have offered in Snap Peters if he would have qualified at OU. So basically, if Jeff Capel left recruiting up to you, we'd be in a bigger hole than we are now.

Fact is all the hope is on Goff, because he is the best available prospect. If there were someone better than Goff, OU would have got him. Now there are prep kids like Angel Chol and Deandre Daniels who are kids that may turn things around, but remember, don't waste time on those kids. So outside of Goff, there are absolutely no other big guys that OU can sign with the expectations to produce, except the guy under my name. And if you dare start copy and pasting some juco guard and begin with the same lines about "OU needs to get him" please reference my first paragraph. Facts are there is not a lot out there. Osby is very talented, that's well documented, but he needs to start performing that way. Guerrero is the best pg available, that's why KU and OSU are offering. Jurick would be great. A lil suprise down the line like Cothron or Katenda, I would make me happy. Fact is we need guys that can play and not sit the bench.

I think we have more guys than you would think with high ceilings. We only play about 2 of them.

Personally, I don't have a problem with Pledger. He's the type of recruit Kelvin Sampson used extensively during his years in Norman except KS usually signed a Pledger type out of Juco (Newton, Neal, etc.).

I think Pledger's deficiencies have been magnified because he's being asked to do things he's not capable of doing like play PG. And, he didn't seem to put out much effort on defense last year but I haven't seen that as much this year.

I agree with you. The problem isn't that we have pledger, it's that we dont have more pledger type guys for when pledger isnt playing well or when he needs competition to push him. I think Capel has hurt him with the pg confusion much the way Sutton hurt Muenelo.

IMO, Pledger should be an off the bench type player like Newton or Neal were under Sampson. He's limited on defense and I think his offensive game is fairly limited as well and should only be used for a specific role (i.e. shooting the rock from behind the arc).

I'd also say Fitzgerald would ideally not start and be a 6th man like a Heywood, although Fitz has a much better offensive game. I think he is limited on defense, too.

However, we don't have the depth to put these guys where they should be playing. If Osby and Goff are all that as everybody seems to think, then maybe Fitz becomes an off the bench forward and I think he would excel at that role simply because of his offense.
