Former Sooners

NBAdraft.net has both Alondis and Brady in their latest mock draft. Kind of crazy how much talent we had last year with them and Austin Kur Davion Jalen Mo and EJ.

More reputable sites have Alondes barely in their top 100 and Manek not listed at all. And Kur is athletic, but talented? And Mo is an undersized guard who is a good shooter, while EJ is a good defender who is below average at every single offensive skill. Trying to paint that as a super talented team is a stretch. Maybe Alondes is going to give himself a chance, but I’d guess AR is the only guy from that roster who ever plays an NBA game.

Alondis has a great chance. He is having a better season this year than Austin had last year. More athletic and is shooting better while also showing he can distribute the ball. Obvious that Lon didn’t maximize last years team.

Just crazy in the world of the transfer portal (and a coaching change) that so many former OU players can be playing elsewhere and succeeding, yet OU is still doing just fine.

Alondes Williams: 20.4 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 5.1 APG, 54.5% FG (Wake Forest leading scorer)
Kam McGusty: 17.9 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 2.4 APG, 48.8% FG (Miami FL leading scorer)
Jordan Shepherd: 14.4 PPG (Cal leading scorer)
Brady Manek: 12.8 PPG, 5.8 RPG (North Carolina)
De'Vion Harmon: 10.6 PPG (Oregon)
Jamal Bieniemy: 14.7 PPG (UTEP)
Trey Phipps: 9.8 PPG, 46.1% 3PT (Oral Roberts)
Kur Kuath: 5.4 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 3.1 blocks per game - 14th nationally (Marquette)
Victor Iwuakor: 1.6 PPG (UNLV)
Josh O'Garro: 3.3 PPG (San Jose State)
Corbin Merritt: 3.6 PPG (Austin Peay)
Anyang Garang: UMBC - has not played

All that adds up to 114.5 points per game (including 6 being power conference players accounting for 81.5 points per game).

Not to mention that's a full roster of 12 players, and if you put that all on one team, it's probably at least a halfway competitive team.

Try to find one NBA person who would think Williams is even in the same stratosphere as Austin as a shooter. And are you forgetting last year’s team was in the top 10 before Covid went through the roster?

Alondes had flashes of brilliance here, but the previous staff had no success in getting him to play one lick of defense. The story would've been the same with Moser. The kid had NO interest in that end of the floor. His +/- stats were a good reflection of that.
