So either (a) Fears is really good but Moser is being Moser and refusing to start a freshman because he is stuck in 1970, or (b) or Fears was given a fair shot to beat out the upperclassmen and wasn’t good enough. I know everyone will spin this as no big deal, it’s just one game, it doesn’t matter who starts, etc, but given Moser’s track record with freshmen and the hype surrounding Fears, this isn’t a good sign.

Was this his best guess or is he reporting these are actually the five guys starting tonight?
He doesn’t say it’s definite, but reads like that’s what he’s saying it’s going to be. Says it’s been communicated to Fears that he will come off the bench, so he wouldn’t expect that to change last minute.

I fully expect Fears to be the starting PG by conference play if he’s as good as advertised. Let’s see how much he plays tonight before we get worried. He could easily play starter minutes

Thanks. I appreciate the info. Extremely disappointed, but not surprised given Moser’s track record.

But why wait? I mean, we wouldn’t have made the NCAA tourney in 2018 if Trae hadn’t dominated from day one. All these games count. It’s not like we have great guards in front of him. I’m guessing Cal won’t bring his stud guard off the bench tonight.

Wichita, another reason Fears might not be starting is just to take the pressure off of the kid and not get him too nervous before the game. He isn't a normal freshman, as he reclassified and should only be a high school senior. Lindenwood is a high pressure defense type of team, and coach might just want to start some experience. I'm betting Fear gets his minutes, and enters the starting lineup pretty early in the season. When you get to see him play, you see what I mean. Kid is a baller and in my lay opinion pretty different level of player than we have brought in. Who knows but it might make some sense not to just throw the kid to the wolves and let him watch the game for a few minutes before putting him out there. Moser is telling people Fears is one of the best freshman he has ever seen, so it will be shocking if he doesn't play him.

I'd be much more concerned if it turns out he is awesome and plays bench-player-level minutes all season. Let's just see how it goes before bringing out the pitchforks. Elvis and Miles are both very experienced and players we will have to count on too if we hope to make the tournament.

Boomer... and I cannot say this lightly enough.... MF SOOOOOOOOOOOOONER. Dammit I love OU basketball. Curious.. Is anyone else's favorite OU player Hollis Price? To this day, he is why my favorite number is 10.

It's Buddy for me. That crossover buzzer 3 against Texas is one of my favorite memories of OU basketball. I went nuts
