NORMAN — The Oklahoma men's basketball team (16-8, 3-8 SEC) plays an unranked opponent for the first time since Jan. 25 when it hosts LSU (12-12, 1-10) on Saturday at 5 p.m. CT inside Lloyd Noble Center.

Saturday's game will mark the sixth all-time meeting between OU and LSU, with the Sooners holding a 3-2 series edge. The programs have met just twice over the last 37 seasons, with OU winning 70-61 in Norman in the 2004 postseason NIT first round and 77-75 in Baton Rouge as the nation's No. 1 team in January 2016.

The contest will be televised by the SEC Network with Kevin Fitzgerald (play-by-play) and Joe Kleine (analyst) announcing. It will air on the Sooner Sports Radio Network (KRXO 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Varsity Radio App) with Toby Rowland (play-by-play) and Kevin Henry (analyst) on the call.

That 2016 game seems so long ago, and I'm not talking about the time passed on the calendar.

Remember watching that game in the lobby/bar area at the Hilton-Granite Park in Plano. A lot of people coming through the lobby probably thought I was nuts. Fun game.

And the game at the LNC against Tack Minor and Brandon Bass was fun, too. IIRC, Foust and Drew Lavendar shined in that game, one of the more lively LNC crowds I remember.

I think about that 2004 NIT game a lot, actually. Because it was an NIT game, tickets were either GA or sold on a first-come-first-serve basis -- I forget -- but regardless, for once the best seats in the lower bowl were not reserved for the donors/season ticket holders who rarely show up. Instead, the liveliest, most diehard OU basketball fans among us filled those seats and the energy difference was palpable. Because of the success of that crowd -- who willed a battered and bruised Sooner team to victory -- I thought for SURE some changes would be made to seating in the LNC, but alas, here we are 20 years later.

Agree 100%. It was nuts and very noticeable the difference. They were still reserved seating but sold first come, first serve.

We got tickets across from the bench about 5 rows up. Incredible energy that night. And not the same scale, thought the same thing of the NIT game two years ago. Fans who were ready to yell and cheer, in both games, had tickets in the lower bowl and it made a difference. I'm a donor and get the system, but the energy was nice for once.

The only negative was the students didn't get the normal allocation in the corner (before they were moved to behind the basket) and student support was even less.

It would be great to get back to those kinds of electric crowds. Had it a bit in Trae's year but missing since the FF year. LNC has a LOT of deficiencies, but when it's full, it rocks.

I was at that game. My Uncle dropped the ball and forgot to call in to reserve our normal seats in LE3. We ended up at mid-court in the lower level about two rows in front of the middle concourse. Tremendous crowd. $10 lower level: $5 upper. Lower was packed; upper was full along the sidelines and pretty sparse behind the baskets. Announced crowd numbered about 8,500 and I believe it. Kelvin was effusive in his praise for the gathering and was devastated when the NIT ignored its "rules" and awarded Michigan the home game even though we outdrew them by about 3,000 fans. With that kind of support he thought we had a legitimate shot to make New York.

Jabahri Brown had been kicked off the team at the end of the season, so De'Angelo Alexander was playing at center. Brandon Foust at the 4. Neither ever played another game at Oklahoma (DA booted for academic misconduct; Foust for a laundry list of infractions.) In comes Taj Gray and Relly Rell for the 2005 campaign and we win the Big 12 crown......our only piece of regular season hardware since the Stacey and Mookie team of 1989.

Yes. That was a fun game. And really should have been a blueprint.

Tomorrow is must-win, obviously and I think we need to win going away to build some momentum.

But I’m expecting a close game, possibly even a loss. We’re just going through the motions at this point, the players know, collectively, that our roster isn’t good enough and Moser is basically cluesless.

As of right now, Jerry Palm and Joe "Joey Brackets" Lunardi both project OU in the NCAA Tournament with room to spare. @WichitaSooner won't acknowledge it but we have some damn quality wins. Even Arkansas is a borderline Tourney team, that's a surprisingly good road win.
lol Arkansas is going to make the tournament ahead of us.

Also, why are you so obsessed with me? I can’t wait to read your posts on March 16 at around 5:45. Will you take the Loser approach and fault the committee for not putting the 18-or-19 win Sooners in?

They might make it in with us, but not ahead of us. Also, are you taking OU on just the money line or the spread? I guarantee they get the money line, and I have a good feeling they cover the spread.

PM has himself a new word:slippage. In a new post on Sooner illustrated he used mentioned that we are currently in a rut and when in a rut you get slippage. WTH??!! Is that just like shrinkage only different??

I don’t think Arky will make the tournament. They dug themselves into too much of a hole, similar to OU.
They’re already passed us in NET and KenPom. They also are playing their best ball and have a much better chance than we do to add to their resume, while we don’t even have a pulse.
