I am really scared that Joe C. is gonna screw this up

This hire is huge for this programs' future. I honestly think if he blows this we may never be relevant in college basketball again aside from the once-a-decade flash in the pan.

Never is a long, long time.

Why does everyone hate Geno? The guy just wins and is a hell of a coach..You might say it's because he is a women's coach but to me, it all boils down to knowing the X's and O's of the game. I'd be perfectly fine with it.

Well he "screwed up" the last hire and we went to an Elite Eight, a round of 32 and got possibly the greatest player ever at OU out of it. I'm not too freightened if that's his bad hire.

You have to remember that there is a certain segment of this board that thinks Joe is a blundering idiot that just lucked into the Stoops hire and has done nothing else.

Can he manage the egos of 17-18 year old star recruits? Are kids going to respect him in the recruiting game as a men's coach? Does he even want to leave UConn? He's gotta a great thing going on now, why give that up.

so...you're content now? you think we're in a good place now?

do you really think this program is enjoying the benefits of that Elite Eight now?

the hallmark of a good span by a coach is leaving it better than you found it, and preferably on an upswing. if you think we're anything close to that then you're on drugs.

I don't know if he wants to leave UConn right this instant but he has stated publicly that he had decided to accept a men's basketball job (using deduction you can easily determine it was OUr job) but his daughter guilted him out of it at the last minute.

OU signed the little brother of a player that was already on the team and grew up in the OKC metro area. That is about as difficult as it was for Texas to sign Gilbert (football) or perhaps even more appropriately how hard it will be for Texas to sign Gilberts little brother.

I am sorry ... but it's not time for our program to be an experiment.

no to geno.

Noooooo. But when I think of a bad hire, I think of no postseason apperances, legal issues with the coach, etc.

We're two years removed from an Elite 8 and a solid recruiting class away from being back to the NCAA tournament.

Sorry if i'm not running around naked screaming that we're all going to die.

I have never seen that expressed by OU fans. I have seen people propose that Joe C might not walk on water.

I would think that there's some egos on women's teams as well but no where like the guys. And I think it would take a lot to get him to leave UConn because like you said, he is the man there.

Also, I'm not saying to hire him but I wouldn't be all up in arms about it either. The man knows basketball and he sure knows how to win.

... and a solid recruiting class away from being back to the NCAA tournament...

do you honestly believe that?

if so I hafta wonder what team you've been watching.

we are an entire team away from the ncaa's unless we bring in a certain type of coach.

Do you have a point?

I do. And it will be proven correct within a couple of years.

And why worry about Joe C's hiring ability? I'm almost positive that 90% of the fans were on his bandwagon during the Elite 8 year.

I have to agree that we are a couple years away from competing at the level that we are use to.

Interesting....I hadn't heard that. I don't doubt his coaching ability from an x's & o's standpoint at all. If he can manage high profile boys and is able to recruit them then I think he can be a successful men's coach. I don't know if there is any difference in the difficulty of running a women's program and men's program.

If the worst coach in the world (Capel, according to OUhoops analysts) can win five conference games with the worst players in the world i'm fairly confident a better coach can win eight or nine with slighty better players.
