I am really scared that Joe C. is gonna screw this up

I dont believe you just quit or give up on people.

People aren't like milk that you just throw out or bread that might not be "fresh".

I also hold about ZERO respect for anything the NCAA says about cheating.

I assume the same is true for Capel?

04, i just dont get the love fest for Evans...i like the guy, but other than his Oklahoma roots for recruiting why do you think he would be a guy that could not only get us back, but sustain it?
A local guy who loves OU would be a wonderful start. By all accounts his teams have a certain style of play, and I like guys who can recruit to their system. Five years in and I never figured out what Jeff was trying to do on offense.

OU BBall is a niche, and it's an ever-shrinking niche with the Thunder now just up the road. If we don't make some giant splash we need to hire someone who wants to be here and knows the territory.

As mentioned earlier, an experienced staff would help Terry ease the growing pains.

This hire IS important.

Basketball is much easier to turn around than football.

Terry Evans is NOT ready to coach D1 basketball.

Hiring Evans would be like the aggies hiring gumby. Not another D1 school in a BCS conference would have hired gumby. He is working out because he hired some good assistant coaches who could recruit and evaluate talent.

Evans would have to get a rainmaker to recruit and he could be the closer. A great Xs and Os coach would be a must too. His grace period would be longer because he's family.

It's still a bigger risk than hiring a current D1 coach.

There's not even a comparison in coaching abilities b/w Evans and Gundy. Thats a joke.

Cool M,

I don't see why all the Gillespie love?

Yeah, he was a pretty good assistant to Bill Self, but his records as a head coach ain't all that.

Capel's two best years were better than Billy Clyde's at A & M. And what he did at Kentucky was pitiful.

In the whole country, except for Kansas, Duke and NC, Kentucky has to be the easiest school in the country for recruiting. He had embarrassing losses at Kentucky with guys like Patrick Patterson, Jodie Meeks and Joe Crawford (all NBA guys) on his team.

I'd second chance him if it weren't for his FIVE DUI's or charges of reckless driving. It's like giving Eddie or Sean a second chance.
+1

Why does everyone hate Geno? The guy just wins and is a hell of a coach..You might say it's because he is a women's coach but to me, it all boils down to knowing the X's and O's of the game. I'd be perfectly fine with it.

He wins because he always gets the elite players to play his style of BB. At OU he probably wont be able to do that.

Geno Auriemma was hired as the head coach of women's basketball at the University of Connecticut in the summer of 1985. He had served 4 years as an assistant coach under Debbie Ryan at the University of Virginia. Auriemma was inheriting a Husky program that had just one winning season in its 11-year history.

His first season the Huskies went 12-15
his record after 3yrs was 43-39
didn't make tourney until his 4th yr
didn't make a final four until year 6
didn't win a championship until year 10

I think its safe to say he built the program, and the reason he gets the talent is because of the success he created.

On the amazing side he was won at least 30 games every year since 93-94 except 98-99 (29-5) & 04-05 (25-8 coming off 3 straight NCAA championship seasons).

It wont matter who he hires there will be a faction of fans pissed that they did not get their hire, I can remember after Blake left and we still had Willie on the team, we also had Tiny and TMG coming in. Fans were going ape**** crazy thinking Capel was leaving for Georgia. We all know what happened here, and it wasn't pretty. Now 2 years later many wanted Jeff Fired which happened. Time will tell on the new hire is what I am getting at. BTW if hiring Evans would mean we are as good in basketball as the Pokes have become in Football I say go for it.
