and if he is, how much longer until that tag is dropped?
When does he become an experienced head coach?

I think this season was definitely a lesson for him. The question isn't when that tag is dropped (you're always learning, ideally) but rather will he change in a way that will make him more successful? I hope he does, because I want him to stay around. If he doesn't, though, his days will be numbered.

You never stop learning as a coach.

Brad Stevens is a young coach, he is successful and still learning...even said so in his press conference the other night. It is pretty apparent from this interview last week that Capel has taken many lessons from this past season.

In terms of experience in dealing with a variety of situations and problems like those he faced this season? The answer is, yes.

It might have been better if Jeff had spent more time as an assistant under a veteran head coach he could learn from, or coached at the AAU level like Frank Martin. I've got to believe that would have prepared him a lot better to adjust to the diverse personalities he had to deal with this year.

I'll add that it would also help if he adopted more of Martin's style of maintaining control of his players. I'm just not sure Jeff can do that. But he needs to realize that you can't be buddy-buddy to everyone and be in charge at the same time. It works well with some kids (adults, too, for that matter). But there are always a few who will take advantage if you give them a chance. The key is separating the chaff from the wheat before it's too late.

Well lets see he is getting around 2 mill a year & the learning curve after 4 year at OU & 2-3 years at Virginia Commonwelth is getting rather small. If you are a coach at any level you should always keep growing & learning(if not quit)but recruiting.molding talent,& getting them to buy into your system is something Capel should be quite comfortable with..He can recruit A for that, but getting the right athletes for his system(whatever that maybe) and getting them to buy into it,he gest a failing grade..Go Sooners!!!!!!!!

When he was hired, I thought he was an experienced head coach. Losing control and experience happen all the time.

I am concerned about the number of player who leave the program or are asked to leave. The OUI board absolutely melted down when Sampson had a player leave.
