It's all conjecture at this point anyway, so what about this theory: Jeff Capel did exactly what most of us wanted and took a stand at the end of the season. He gave these guys a choice. Do it his way, or there's no scholarship for you next year.
Any chance this is the story? So, TMG leaves because he's not willing to do it the right way. Willie claims to the media that he doesn't have a scholarship, because he's not willing to do it the right way. Tiny, on the other hand, makes the choice to work and do it the right way, assuming the NCAA and OU will allow him to continue.
I highly doubt Coach Capel, unless things were just THAT bad, told these guys they absolutely, 100% could not come back next year. My guess is that he gave them a choice. My guess is that the guards may have, at least at this point, taken the easy way out.
