Kelvin to Houston?

Stellar move if they can pull it off.

Re: Kelvin to Houston

Really happy for him if true!

Re: Kelvin to Houston

Yeah I read this elsewhere.

Is he really not going to ever get an NBA head job?

Re: Kelvin to Houston

It's kinda weird that with all the head jobs he was in on for the NBA he didn't get one of them. But I hope he does well with the Cougars. I honestly still love the guy as a coach. I know he rubbed a lot of people here the wrong way. But he guy was a winner and pretty much did the best with whatever talent he had most of the time.

Re: Kelvin to Houston

I would instantly have to slot Houston in as my 3rd favorite college basketball team.

Hope he gets it, if that is what he wants. I have no doubt he will do well there.

Re: Kelvin to Houston

If that's what Kelvin wants to do, I hope he does it. Last I'd heard, from people close to him, he was VERY happy in the NBA game. I'd be a bit surprised, frankly.

Re: Kelvin to Houston

If the AAC is looking to gain respect in college basketball, I think they're headed in the right direction.

Re: Kelvin to Houston

He hasn't recruited in nearly a decade but if he goes to a Houston he won't have to travel around the country like he would have to for an Oklahoma. He can basically get good talent in Texas. The problem with an NBA job is that there really isn't any chance at security there. If you have one bad year you are pretty much out of a job.

Re: Kelvin to Houston

would houston become a ncaa tourney team every year?

More than likely. Teh thing about Kelvin is he could get the types of guys he got to OU to go to Houston as well. Not like he was winning by bringing in Burger boys.

Kellen does a pretty good job on the recruiting trail.

Nope he kept running them off. Humphrey and Lavender come to mine.

Kelvin will win in Houston. I'm just surprised that no one else has since Guy Lewis retired. I'd like to think that a college located in the 4th largest city in America in a state loaded with quality players and is the alma mater to three of the top 50 NBA players of all time, could compete with the right coach. Also, I believe Houston, along with Illinois are the only two schools to have been to more Final Fours than OU without cutting down the nets.

He paid the price. He deserves a second chance. Nobody has ever questioned his coaching. He was a great coach in a league that had a lot of great coaches

It might take him a year or two to get them there, but IMO the Cougars would become a perennial tournament team under Coach Sampson. He is my favorite OU coach of all time, and I still believe we should have kept him, and the NCAA be damned.

I miss his teams a lot because I knew every night nobody would out work us and people didn't like playing us. I don't think taking the rims down and doing his rebounding drill will be seen at OU for a long time.

With that said well I seem to remember him leaving us and getting us on probation, not us deciding to send him on his way to Indiana.
