He flirted with a quadruple-double against Prestonwood!

I love those numbers. His averages are 13 points, 14.7 rebounds, 4.7 blocks, 4.7 steals and 2.7 steals per game. That is filling up a stat sheet. I hope this continues all season.

From that article that was linked a few weeks ago this looks like a good kid with parents and grandparents that are involved in his life. That matters.

Tidbits from yesterday’s “Lunch with Lon” luncheon:

The coaches are excited about all three of the incoming recruits that signed in November 2013.

Regarding the late (April 2014) signing period for the 2014 recruiting class, Coach indicated there is a chance that OU will take one (1) more player as they watch the development of high school seniors. However, IF the Sooners do take another 2014 recruit, it is more likely to be a transfer, presuming a player becomes available that the OU coaches really like. Coach said another option is to stay where they are, which would give them three (3) recruiting spots for 2015. In other words, in the 2015 class there will be at least 2 spots, and probably 3.

If finals week goes well, there is a chance that the team could achieve an average GPA of 3.0.

Someone asked about the improved shooting of certain players compared to last season. Coach said that in 30-plus years of coaching, he has never had so many players on one team that loved the gym, or spent so much of their extra time practicing on their own in the gym. He specifically mentioned Isaiah Cousins, Buddy, Ryan Spangler and Trey Slate.

Impressive stats, to say the least. From everything I've read and heard, Lattin is a shot-blocker deluxe. With our three newbie bigs joining Spangler and Bennett, who are better than average shot-blockers in their own right, OU should be an intimidating force in defending the paint next year.

The new rules have put a premium on bigs who can block or change shots. Assuming Lattin, Buford and McNeace are good enough to contribute as freshmen (and I believe the first two will be), OU should have at least two shot-blockers on the floor at all times next season.

Prestonwood is Julius Randle's old school, so I've got to believe Lattin put up those numbers against good competition. By all accounts, he's going to be a good one.

By the way, CoachTalk, thanks for posting the updates on Lattin!

YES

OH CRAP YES

THIS GUY IS A BEAST MACHINE

And in more considered terms... he's averaging almost five assists in spite of being the most talented player on his team AND being 6'9 in the post in high school?? I was excited to have him based on measurables and ceiling a month ago, now I'm amped to see how his skill set adopts to the running offense. If he's hitting cutters from the mid-post and finding open guys off offensive rebounds, he could average three to four assists in D1, given starter minutes and the team he'll be coming into. KHADEEM! Love this recruiting class more every day.

I still think we need another ball handler in the late period...or another SF wing that will allow Jelon to focus at the 1.

Ohhh myyyyyy goshhhh. Love those numbers... And coupled with Spangler... Wow I think we could have something special

When I see stats like these I think about the possibilities of Lattin and Spangler on the floor together in a true high/low post offense or how much more effective our zone defense might be. Our rim defense obviously improves greatly and rebounding, normally a problem in zone play, becomes a strength.

Prestonwood is pretty solid, they have a foreign-born 6'10" guy who is still learning the American game, but will be a high major player.

The team is a lot better now thanks to Randle's injury during the regular season a year ago.

Lattin is going to be a monster for us.

And adding a transfer guard would be just what the doctor ordered, IMO. Not sure we'll be able to get one, though, with the young talent we have right now.

a transfer would most likely be in the same class as spangler, buddy, cousins, and je'lon. Not sure that is what we need.
