Manek

I personally think Brady has been a better overall player this year. I'm not doing the research but I think he had a much bigger non conference scoring average last year. He was really stroking the ball early that season and of course TY was getting him a bunch of wide open looks.

Brady clearly needs to continue to gain strength. On our team he has to play against physical guys. He wears down from the constant pushing. Sky is correct in that he was sick and lost a bunch of weight. He played through very high temperatures and his stats were bad those two weeks. He lost weight and stamina which has continued to affect him.

He is a good jumper but he isn't a gifted athlete. He is slow.

He is a very good shooter who is to hard on himself but he will hit open shots. He isn't a big creator but I think this will be better if we get more threats around him next year. We didn't have guys who can create their own shot. Doo did it at the end of the year.

He works very hard and is a great kid. He will be more improved next year. I truly believe as he continues to add muscle he will be a very good player maybe even all conference as a senior.

I would vote him the second best player behind Doo. CJ had better numbers but I'm betting they were similar in conference play.

Absolutely spot on. I'd add that for all the talk by some that this team doesn't have guys who put in the work, the staff has repeatedly said that this is a great practice team with a great attitude. They definitely didn't say that last season. Whatever our issues are this season, I'm confident that effort isn't the problem, for Manek or others.

CJ scored a bit more than Manek, but he played more minutes, too. Manek shot a better percentage, overall and from three.

Women generally like being compared to men? He wasn't comparing you to any woman or do you believe he was comparing you to the woman you most want to be compared to? Most people would say that was not the case, obviously.

I'm a woman (there's more on this site than you might think) and I can confirm that telling Sky to take a Midol IS offensive. It's insinuating that showing any emotion/passion whatsoever is taboo and only done by women on their period (and should be medicated, for that matter). It's antiquated as hell.

By the way, this thread itself is about a man who cried after getting ejected from a game, something I can't recall any of OU's female student athletes ever doing.

Not understanding the part about there's more women than I think for I never made the implication either way. Secondly, the point I was making was one where the insinuation made was not one where the person it was directed to gets to pick and choose which women he is being compared to and nothing else.

Advanced stats say that he is a better player this season

higher PER and higher Winshares (mostly because he DWS is much much higher)

I find offense as an emotional old man. We have emotions and there's nothing wrong with that. stow the masculine BS.

There's an easy case to be made that Manek has improved, but it's not statistical. He gets a few more minutes this year, but beyond that his season statistics are almost identical.

Anyone that thinks Manek sucks or doesn't belong is delusional or is just being needlessly abrasive. I am disappointed that his improvement this season has not been more significant - he has basically played a similar season to last year, when we all expected to see significant improvement. He played 15% more minutes and his rebounds and points increased only incrementally upon the minutes played, rather than seeing actual increases of him being "better". Also, his FG% and 3P% are down from last year.

We should have seen much bigger jumps from him in production and efficiency. Here's to hoping we see that next year, because he certainly has the talent.

Sophomore slump is a common term for a reason. Brady may have slumped early season but worked thru it better than many. I think his future is very bright especially with more talent around him.

Is anybody saying that?

Exactly. There are a select few on here who love to reach for that strawman anytime a player's strengths and weaknesses are being critiqued....it's a sensitivity issue I guess.

As for Manek....he is a good player. His shot is fine, but in order to become more of a presence down low (when he has to play there), it would do him good to add some weight. I don't think he needs to gain 25-30 lbs, but if he added 10 lbs or so....especially to his base (legs, butt etc.), then I think it would help him really anchor down for positioning and not get pushed around at times. Squats, dead-lifts, and plyometrics are a basketball player's best friend in the offseason.

One poster stated repeatedly in this thread that Manek, a player that most agree is the second- or (at worst) third-best player on the team, shouldn't be starting. I came back with actual stats and other info that called that stance into question. I'm not sensitive; I'm just prepared counter to what I view as unfounded criticism.

Many here who are very quick to criticize the players and coaches (and often in less than civil terms) get very touchy indeed when someone dares to disagree with them.

But yeah, we're the sensitive ones.

I wasn't even referring to you in this case.....but your response conveniently backs up my statement.

And for those who keep repeating that Manek didn't improve this season, I'll cite the facts once again: He improved in six categories, he remained the same in three and he got worse in these three categories: He had more turnovers, going from .7 per game to 1.5 per game. That number, by the way, is the same as Doolittle's (and I've seen no one call him out) and it's lower than James' and Calixte's.

His overall shooting dropped a tick over 1%--sorry, but that's negligible any way you want to spin it--while from deep, his percentage dropped just under 3%, which is a little more concerning, but he still shot better in both categoriers than James did--and CJ is a senior.

That's it -- those three categories are the only ones that saw him drop off. Meanwhile, he improved in six areas, including a significant jump in free throw percentage--from 60% to 75%.

And again it's worth remembering that he was battling a midseason lingering illness that caused him to lose significant weight (10-12 pounds is what I've heard reported). It's not a leap to suggest had he not been sick for a couple of weeks, his shooting percentages might not have fallen off at all, though of course we can't know that for sure.

If Brady stayed the same statistically from last year to this one, he would have been showing improvement. Last year, Trae was so good, he made EVERYONE better. Trae even made me better, and all I do is sit on my couch and watch the game.

To lose a generational talent like Trae but still get at least marginally better in multiple statistics as Sky pointed out is more improvement than it looks.
