March Madness and Covid-19

222 new Covid-19 cases in Oklahoma today, that's the biggest increase I can remember. Also, the Whirlpool plant in Tulsa is closing due to an outbreak. Batten down the hatches....

Yeah not good. Hopefully deaths don't follow suite.

Also, where did you see the 13 mintues? Anybody have the raw video? B/c from what was on the posted link, nothing the officers did was wrong

“Police restrained Derrick Scott after a report of a disturbance involving a man brandishing a gun, and he appeared to go unconscious as he was held for 13 minutes.“

It’s said the full video has been released, but I can’t find it yet.

Did I say that?
Yall (leftists) are very good at twisting words to mean something they aren't intended to mean

I said stop kneeing people for 13 minutes & you replied “stop running from the cops.

Don’t see how I twisted your words when I asked a question about what you said.

So you believe that being held for 13 minutes means kneeing on someone for 13 minutes? I read it as being restrained

If you want to you can address the question posed by Bounce. If you want a mature conversation with people that is entirely understandable. Is it mature or immature to respond to his question?

Is it ok if I work for a few hours before checking the board to see a question had been asked? Why did you feel the need to post that since you aren’t contributing to the discussion.

This could be true, that’s why I want to see the full video. From the clips they were kneeing him from the start & looked to do so until they realized he was unconscious. I still don’t see how it takes 4 officers 13 minutes to restrain, cuff, & put someone in the back seat of a car.

Maybe bc I never said running from the cops means you deserve to die.

The fact is, nothing good comes out of runing from the cops. From the video I've seen, the cops did nothing wrong. He had a collpased lung. I assume that happened from being tackled. Do you think he would have had a collpased lung if he didn't run? Actions have consequences...it is sad when it ends in death.

Eh some people get away.

Actions do have consequences, but death is becoming the consequence far too often.

I did not say it was to be immediate so you cannot say I was stating otherwise for I made a suggestion only.

You talked about a certain type of discussion you wanted to be involved in. I was wondering if you would follow through or not.

I agree. Way too many people are dying in police custody. The cops job is very dangerous too and they also must be protected. It’s not an easy answer or it would’ve been solved by now. I do think the police need far more training in talking to people and de-escalating situations. It’s way too often that the cops show up and escalate a simple situation.

The cops know how to shoot a gun and tackle somebody. They need more training in communication, de-escalation, and detaining a suspect safely. Also, they have to identify the loose canons more quickly and eliminate them.

Ugh! Another new futility record for North Carolina with 1,846 cases reported today. Only Florida had more. We already know that locking ourselves in our houses doesn’t work, and apparently acting like the virus doesn’t exist doesn’t seem to be generating positive results, either. I’m still holding out some faint hope in regards to “exercising common sense” approach catches on.

I think there are 375 million interactions between police and the public so at some point in time mistakes are going to rear their ugly head. Some doctors are quacks, so doctors should not be supported. Some lawyers are shysters, so lawyers should not be supported. Some members of the ministry are poor examples of human beings, so the ministry should not be supported. The problem is that is not the solution and people in general should put their hands down and stop pounding their chests and deal with wrongdoings in a rational and unbiased manner.

I agree with this 100%. A huge way to help the prison & police situations is to invest the $$$ into public education, rehab facilities, and the police force. Cut a huge chunk out of the military budget.

Putting $$$ into education increases the probability someone gets a solid job to support themselves and provide more options. Schools need far better funding. Also if teachers and police officers had a higher salary more qualified & better teachers/officers would go into the profession. Schools are hesitant to get rid of the bottom teachers because they don’t know who will fill these positions, there are way too many emergency certified teachers. Most teachers are amazing but there are plenty of bad ones as well, very similar to police officers. I had 3 people walk out of my Fundamentals of Education class when the teacher showed us the salary scale for teachers.

It takes 6 months to be a police officer. There should be so many more hours, education, & funding to become one. However, since the pay isn’t worth the risk or going to school/training for a few years, like teaching, too many bad ones get through and keep their jobs.

Great rehabilitation programs would be better than prison for drug addicts. Drug addicts are also the majority of robberies in America. Rehab them properly instead of prison (where it’s worse drugs & violence).

One of my biggest arguments with police training Is it only takes 6 months. That, to me, is ridiculous. Many years ago, I became an EMT and that’s 1 semester or roughly 3-4 months. Then, I went on to become a paramedic and that took an additional 18 months. Most paramedic programs now are 2 years. I would think the police training would at least take a year or more. They need far more training. Plus, if you have those students for 18 months to 2 years, it’s much easier to spot the crazy ones and filter them out.

Now THAT is a stat that matters and actually puts stuff in perspective.

Is there a site providing updates to this stat frequently?

The problem is that some states got caught conflating direct testing with antibody testing to make their stats look good so you have to be careful that the “number of people tested” is accurate. I know the person I talked to at the OSDH said that their numbers were a joke, so we will see.
