March Madness and Covid-19

Yes, but the effect from the protests won't be until 3-4 weeks after the protests. It hasn't been long enough from the time of the protests to see a spike in covid-19 due to them. The spikes we are seeing now are from the "re-opening."

Why do you think that? Symptoms can come on anywhere from a couple days to two weeks. The protests have been going on for a couple weeks now haven't they?

Because of the incubation period followed by the lag time between onset of symptoms and people getting tested/seeking treatment

SteveO thinks it’s okay for thousands to violently trash a city with no social distancing, yet we should all still be cowering in our basement with no human contact.

Hypocrite who has lost all credibility.

but he is in the medical field.
So he is an anecdote
But all anecdotes have the same reliability, which is apparently zero.

or something like that

He has his problems, obviously. You either accept and bow to his doctrine or you are not worthy. I believe your value lies within your heart and soul, but apparently it lies within his judgement of you. If you outlive him do not be surprised if you hear "katy bar the door" upon him taking his last breath.

:ez-laugh: ok

Crowded restaurants and stores do but crowded gathering shoulder to shoulder and yelling doesn't?

Bounce, I was referring to one state - North Carolina. Here, the numbers were skyrocketing before the protests. I already explained the reason why...not rocket science. I just wish the people in my state would show a little more common sense.

Gotcha

I seriously doubt he was on board with the protests. I disagreed with Steve from the beginning about everyone “staying at home” for weeks and months on end, but he is correct in that the recent spike is related to the re-opening. I can only speak for N.C. , but wouldn’t be surprised if it is everywhere. My position all along was not to destroy the economy and small businesses by staying home, but to simply use some basic common sense when being out and about.

I do not think it is written in stone that the death rate has to spike up like the reported cases have. Hopefully, the at risk group has learned their lesson. Seems like the deaths reported, as a whole, have dropped in recent weeks and with more hope they stay there. In Oklahoma the deaths have dropped off even though we reopened some weeks ago.

This seems to suggest the term "skyrocketing" might be a little strong.

Oh do I? It’s nice that you’re a mind reader. I really don’t care what Trump cultists think but your posts do give me a good laugh! Thanks for your performance art.

You obviously don’t know what anecdotal evidence is. You should probably do some reading on
The topic and get back to the group.

I thought the mass protests could not have had worse timing and I’ve said here that there will be a spike due to them, it just hasn’t happened yet.

I have a pretty good idea what goes on in my own state, county, city, etc. notice how I refrain from commenting about what goes on in Oklahoma? It’s because I don’t live there. In N.C., for the longest time we were around #20 / #21 in Covid cases. As of this morning, we’re up to #16. We would get 100-200 cases a day, and now we’re getting 500-1500. That would be my definition of skyrocket, but feel free to call it what u want.

I apparently need to raise my voice because North Carolinians continue to disconnect the dots. According to the Worldometer, we’re once again the 5th highest daily totals (1,142), trailing the same 4 states (California, Texas, Florida and Arizona). Even my family and friends in NY are asking me what the heck is going on down here.

The second wave is hitting, and the first one hasn’t even dissipated yet. Be safe out there...
