March Madness and Covid-19

I was speaking more broadly, about everything. It’s ok for thousands to gather for something you believe in, but if you don’t like the message, they shouldn’t be Allowed to gather. That sounds fair.

What is your plan for the country. Should we stay inside forever with no human contact or should we go to work, school, etc.

People should wear masks, but many don’t. Businesses are trying to implement social distancing but not everyone complies. I agree people should wear masks as much as they can, but many people don’t.

I already said that the protests could not have been at a worse time.

My plan would have been to keep flattening the curve and as you relax the guidelines somewhat, as cases abate, AT LEAST require masks in all public places. But we can't even do that. The people that can work online should continue to do that, we can have online classes. We absolutely should not have public gatherings, of any kind. That includes the protesters, I looked out over those crowds and cringed just like I did when the beaches reopened.

What's also funny about the rally is that the BOK Center closed all other events, but is allowing 20,000 people to cram in there for a Trump rally, plus the untold number of people who will be outside.

It's absolute madness.

It's going to the new conservative narrative to blame the spikes on protests... which logically doesn't hold much water.

One Walmart in Broken Arrow, OK has probably already had more customers/employees (this morning) in it than will protest in the entire state of Oklahoma today. And that's one store.

Normal people going to work, going to stores, going to restaurants, going to water parks, movie theatres, zoos, etc outnumber people protesting probably 100,000 to 1, and that's being conservative.

Surely we can agree that people living their lives and letting their guard down is hundreds of millions of people, and people protesting is a tiny fraction of that.

I drove by the casino 5 minutes from my home yesterday and it was absolutely packed. Insanity.

Yea, just add that to the list...

And airports, and airplanes, and taxi cabs, and Ubers, etc.

But they will want to blame protests that are a tiny fraction of that number.

100,000 to 1, conservative estimate.

Yeah and it will be hard to make that case when you look at places like Arizona who barely had any protests but their cases are skyrocketing.

I think we have been through this before, but most people at stores are social distancing. Most people at protests don't appear to be.

Yes but they're also outside which is a mitigating factor. I have seen lots of people crammed together when I have to venture out to the grocery store, also very few masks, which are more important than social distancing.

The scale makes it pretty impossible... The stores have stickers on the ground and stuff, and every time I go people disrespect the hell out of it. People accidentally get within range of each other probably millions of times per day collectively.

Nobody is staying 6 feet away from others consistently.... seriously, nobody. You try, but inevitably just being out and about you break the rule.... Mask usage is way down. You know people aren't being as militant about hand hygiene, etc.

That's been my observation as well.

This type of nonsense seems to be everywhere...wish North Carolina was an exception, but we're worse than most. I'm losing hope that Americans will grow some common sense when it comes to being out in public.

I know, it's like they think "Welp, it's over I can do what I want!" They're getting lots of mixed messages as well which is a huge problem.

Conservatives are bringing up protests for causes of some spikes but not because they think it is a major reason for it or even a minor one. They are bringing it up because of the hypocricy that is out there. It's OK to gather in large groups of people to protest and risk people'e lives but not to gather at other places? On one hand, conservatives are being called murderers for wanting to go to church and on the other hand these same people are promoting people to go and protest.

I got tested today due to being in a meeting with someone that tested positive. I found it interesting that my company has switched to cheek swabs. Any evidence of this being more accurate? If I had to guess, in a controlled environment, it is probably less accurate but in the real world, there are probably more ways to screw up a nasal swab so maybe the cheek swab is more accurate overall

I have never heard of the cheek swabs being used but there are a million tests that have been rushed to market. Personally I would not really trust a cheek swab. Do you know what manufacturer makes the test? I could do some research for you.

I would say the protests are a little more uncontrollable than scheduled events like graduation, church, etc...

The timing sucks, but do you really tell the black community that their protests against brutality, discrimination, and oppression came at a bad time and to come back again in a few months?

I guess what I'm getting at is I don't think conservatives have an issue with the protests. They have an issue with being told it is OK to risk the elders lives while protesting but not OK for other reasons. It is selective morality and pretty offensive

I know they are still calling it pcr and the formed i filled out was from LabLik.
