March Madness and Covid-19

This is a little bit of common sense, but it seems like the really active spreads have been from things like sporting events or other events that packed a lot of people into a small area. Again, comment sense I know. Makes me think that there isn't as much passing of the virus going on from being in the grocery store together, or touching a door handle.

That doesn't bode well for the rally this week in Tulsa or sports this fall.

Edit: I meant to add passing is bad at jobs where people work in small areas and close together as well. Processing plant and assembly line type work. Outside of that, I haven't really heard of like an office passing it around.

Another new record today for new cases reported in Oklahoma.

1 new death (not in the last 24 hours)

So where can we find numbers for total deaths (not just COVID) in Oklahoma by month or day?

I still wait for any victim to say that the risk was overblown.

You’re right. We should all stay in our homes and have no contact with anyone for the rest of our lives. Whether it’s Covid, the flu, h1n1, herpes, we should all stay locked away. Makes sense.

Interesting article on how Covid is spread:

It’s not common to contract Covid-19 from a contaminated surface, scientists say. And fleeting encounters with people outdoors are unlikely to spread the coronavirus.

Instead, the major culprit is close-up, person-to-person interactions for extended periods. Crowded events, poorly ventilated areas and places where people are talking loudly—or singing, in one famous case—maximize the risk.

Florida Woman, 15 Friends Test Positive for Coronavirus After Dinner at Restaurant

This information has been becoming more mainstream......being in a closed space for a prolonged time with little ventilation is ideal for transmitting the virus.

A place like a church (with singing) or a bar (with lots of loud voices) is not where I would want to take chances with the virus.

If people (and some politicians) would just use some common sense.....

But I agree with some of the other posters....this is going to end up as a herd immunity. Too many people fighting the scientists for it not to.

Funny thing about the scientists is they are all basically at work as opposed to being at home watching reruns of the Price is Right or in the kitchen trying to fung shui the spice rack and the toaster so the nearby hibiscus will put on a happy face.

Maybe I'm alone.....but I think scientists (especially the epidemiologists) would be considered "essential" workers now.

:)

One of the worst things about this crisis.......all of the elderly (my mom is 90 and in good health) that are virtually locked in their homes because they are afraid to leave the house. She has a friend that she takes rides with just to get out of the house.....and she goes early in the morning to the grocery store and avoids aisles with people in them while wearing a mask. I actually think she is in good enough health that she could survive the virus, but I don't want her to take any chances. I haven't gone to see her since the shutdown started because I've been working throughout the shutdown.

And all of this also applies to anyone with health problems....

The game here was lost in the first quarter.

This is much like the Schnellenberger years......

I was making a joke.

Ugh....I think I'm going to go throw up now.

I guess if we ever want to unite the board, all we have to do is mention Howard Schnellenburger and John Blake...not much disagreement with those two as the subject :-).

As for Covid, somehow the state of North Carolina actually got worse since I voiced my frustrations a few days back. At that time, there were 4 states who seemed to be doing a worse job of keeping this pandemic in check. Now, all we call do is thumb our noses at Florida and Arizona. We may be just days away from making wearing a mask in public MANDATORY. While not something I want to hear, I can’t blame the governor for trying to be proactive in coming up with ideas. Self-management has clearly failed here.
