March Madness and Covid-19

We could do what they did in any number of other countries. Mandatory masks in public would be a good start, do you disagree with that reasonable measure?

Wearing masks is already mandatory in many states, and highly encouraged in all others.

I know you won’t post your sources but what about naming countries?

It is difficult if not impossible to wean certain people from convenience for it is their life. Notice how California led the country yesterday in cases reported yet no mention is made. None.

Thanks.

I prefer to look at per capita. Also if we are talking about deaths, I’d prefer to look at deaths instead of cases

Then we would have to look into what the country has done and mandated and for how long and how much assistance they gave for a start

The European Union has 445 million people. The United States has 350 million.

Not really, but if I had to throw out guesses:

Most: NY
Least: Montana

How did I do?

Well there are only 15 states that require masks in public places where social distancing isn't possible. I think we need a national policy, but that's just me.

I thought I had heard that all but 4 states had some degree of mask requirements.

Nah, leave it to the states to decide. If there are 15 states, North Carolina is only a few days away from making it 16. It’s a mess here, and the change to make it mandatory is needed - for this state. I wouldn’t punish the states who have more intelligent people than we have here.

I’d love for you guys to go talk to people that literally had no way to feed their children. Tell them they gave up

I've been that family that couldnt feed their kids - both as the kid and as a parent. And I accept/except that. But you don't make that the general rule and you don't leave the question open for debate.

But that's the problem, there aren't states that have intelligent people and states that have stupid people. Every state has stupid people so we need a national policy, IMO.

And what are you going to do if people don't comply? Arrest them all? With whom? Cops? Good luck asking a white cop to arrest a black person not wearing a mask, that doesn't want to be arrested.

The Fed government, for starters, has no business issuing a blanket policy like that across the country, especially when they can't enforce it.

Second, it's becoming more and more clear that people aren't catching COVID-19 from being unmasked in Walmart or Lowe's. And I really haven't seen any proof that it's being spread in any kind of serious manner from things like haircuts. The biggest spreads are large groups of people that are around each other for significant lengths of time, in relatively small/enclosed spaces. So again, to answer your question, I think it's silly to make it mandatory to wear masks everywhere in public.

That's how other countries have controlled the spread, look at South Korea. The virus doesn't care what you think is silly.

Not all societies are one in the same as cultural traditions guide their respective behaviors. We are one of the freest societies, if not the freest, yet some expect us to be just like others. We are truly an industrialized society and an industrialized society requires more human interaction than an agrarian society yet there are people who refuse to make this observation. It is easy for agrarian societies to keep a safe distance from others and this is why the "heartland of America" has had an easier time dealing with the virus.
