I'm actually kind of amazed that someone would think that high incarceration rates are evidence of more freedom.
When I think about freedom, I usually don't think freedom to break the law.
You think incarceration is the only solution for people that break the law, especially non-violent offenders?
It's simple really. When you have private, for-profit prison systems, they will constantly be lobbying legislators for laws that send more people to prison. And as long as Citizen's United is the rule of the land, lobbying will include lucrative bribes that aren't against the law. There is no incentive to find ways to rehabilitate people who break the law. More criminals means more profit for the prisons and the corporations that own and run them.

ahhh, much closer to the truth than any of the tripe mentioned above. Make sure to include the federal subsidies and grants. Our state prosecutors and law enforcement are forced to include for them in their agendas just to receive ordinary funding that is denied them by our state legislature in the name of austerity - all while giving HUGE production tax breaks to big oil. "But we don't have any money ..." well no wonder you dont. You subsidized it all away for your lobbying buddies.
lol, why not? If rehab is a private, for-profit system as well, it would be every bit as advantageous as prison.
And I don't think prisons are raking in the cash.
If Trump and his cronies didn't think there was cash to be made, they wouldn't be for private prisons.

Really? Trump doesn't like ObamaCare, but it's still there. It's not like he can waive a magic wand and do away with a system that has been in place for how long?
Obama was in office for 8 years. Why didn't he change the prison system? This is why I can't stand dems. They come up with new reasons to hate on policy when the GOP is in office, when their people didn't change a damn thing when they had the chance.

While I don't necessarily agree, you're much better at explaining your viewpoint than our delicate little snowflake.
Would love to hear a retort to this, but won't hold my breath.

This article is as good as I could find to explain why President Obama didn't get everything done that was needed......, that and the fact that he had to clean up the mess left by the previous administration.
