March Madness and Covid-19

I'm not disagreeing that the particular site is on the right (I saw the other article titles on the page), I received an email about it this morning....that's it. I'm also skeptical of "fact checkers" because few, if any, are down the middle and truly objective. It's my curse of having a suspicious disposition.

Here is the Orlando Sentinel article:

The Orlando Sentinel cannot be correct in their story because the other site is questionable. Do you understand the applied reasoning?

If you read the article from the Sentinel it is much less breathless and conspiratorial than the biased Just News article.

Reporting errors happen all the time, when you have thousands of labs reporting it's inevitable. The Sentinel story said that most of the errors are from small private labs, which makes sense. With millions of tests being run daily these errors are negligible and nothing to get excited about.

Did you read the Sentinel article? It is much less sensational, "Just the News" took their story and make it sound like there is some conspiracy going on. It's easy to do that if you want to get clicks.

I read it as not a big deal and teh issue was that the negatives weren't reported..so naturally if all you report is positives, then the number of positives is going to match the number of tests

Yeah, that kind of thing happens all the time. People make reporting mistakes.

Walmart is going to start requiring all customers to wear a mask on July 20. I can't wait to see all the rednecks berating Walmart employees for now being a communist company, lol.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/15/business/walmart-masks/index.html

I have a picture of Governor Stitt walking around Wal-Mart 2 days ago with no mask infecting others with a big smile on his face like he hasn't a care in the world. He's been spotted other places around town doing much the same. THIS is what is killing us.

And he still says he's not even considering a mask mandate. I don't get it.

Think the new spike in cases is from July 4th parties?

No. The answer to this is always the same. It's just the general population causing it. Too many people don't respect it, and when you don't respect it, you get spread.

New York, as an example, was having the worst of it when they were sheltering.

Japan has more elderly people than any other country and are far more densely packed than the US. Yet they are doing WAAAAY better than we are.

Because the Japanese issued guidelines like wearing masks, washing hands, and staying away from large public places.... and the population actually listened. They don't have a bunch of clowns running cities and towns who refuse to abide by what we know works. They don't have a bunch of people who think its a govt conspiracy to make them wear a mask. They don't have a bunch of people who think its a violation of their freedom to abide by some basic scientific guidelines.

That's why South Korea, Japan, and many others are making us look like fools right now.

so thousands of people having bbqs and partying together isn't a cause for spike but the trump rally was?

To be fair, they are used to wearing masks over there due to air quality.

Also, maybe they have some pretty strict penalties for not wearing them

Japanese live a different lifestyle than we. In comparative terms they do not socialize like us (in comparative terms).

You serious? Yes they do, and their large cities are enormous. You've never seen so many people packed together.

I feel like you are making my point.

I never said the Trump rally created a spike. That would imply people showed up. I have been consistent on this forum that the general population not respecting anything is the cause. Not riots, rallies, etc.

Yeah it seems to me that japanese would be ripe for spread

Maybe I am lol. I think if people in the US had been conditioned to wearing masks due to poor air quality, you would have seen people in the US have no issue with wearing masks for covid.

fair enough

Japanese are more traditional than we are. No one said they don't have cities, but of course you digress. We are more sociable than they are and it's called a comparison. It is not one in the same. No one said they do not socialize. Either they socialize more than us, less than us or the very same. Hello!

NYC has close to twice the population density of Tokyo.

One citation on their lifestyle.

"The Japanese don't invite people to their house very often partly because they feel a lot of stress about making sure their guests are happy and well fed and partly because homes are small and regarded as private places just for family members. Japanese generally don't stop by someone's house unannounced and just hang out."

Japan has a population density of 899 people per square mile

The United States has a population density of 94 people per square mile
