But to say just "be your own person" and leadership means nothing to your attitude is not realistic.
Did the words of Neal Armstrong when he stepped on the moon not mean anything or inspire America? Did Reagan saying "tear down this wall" not motivate, inspire and possibly assist in bringing down Communism? Didn't Churchill's words of comfort and courage help calm Great Britain and ulimately encourage them to defending their country? Did George Bush standing on in the shadows of destruction and speaking through a megaphone not inpsire our whole country on 9/11 and give first responders the motivation to keep on digging through the rubble? C'mon, we were all teary-eyed chanting USA-USA and ready to run through a wall when he said that.
Especially on this board, OU Hoops, of all places, where people complain about Lon not doing enough to motivate his team, just claps, doesn't call TOs when needed, and our team is soft or mentally weak because of him, and we should hire Buzz Williams because his charisma is motivating. But now the voices are saying words do not matter, an individual is their own person. I'll remember this when Austin Reaves goes 0-11 or has 5 TOs next year and Kruger doesn't bench him or do anything.
Yes, leadership and words matter. You can be your own person, yet still be changed by the inspiration, or conversely the dissuasion, and words of a leader.
