March Madness and Covid-19

You think I am wrong on the intent?

I would rather be a prisoner to logic than a prisoner to narrative. Everyone was referring to it as Wuhan. I do not understand the scimus. If I call a ball which traverses from left to right as a fade or a slice why is it to be offensive. Being offended or not is a choice as it is not a forced issue. You are making it a choice. I don't think Wonka bars are made for wonky people. I could make that analysis and draw attention to myself but what purpose would it solve? Heck. There are people who think asking someone if they play golf is a micro aggression!!!!!!!!! You can engage in something ,which clearly has no intent, and I could easily find those who thinks it does. External analysis needs to be replaced by self analysis.

The people who say its not a big deal to call it the "China Virus" are the same people who seem opposed to calling it what the WHO/CDC are calling it.

The point is you WANT to call it the China Virus for political reasons. Not because you think that name makes the most sense, or is the most scientific, or is the most helpful, etc.

Intent matters. It's not like saying the word China is racist or offensive, but the intent of labeling it that way is clear. It's not the word itself, it is the intent.

Political? lol

I've never called it that, for the record. But if I did, it would be for NO other reason than to state where it originated. Period. Possibly to poke a little fun at the Chinese. That isn't racist. It did start there.

I'm sure there are plenty of diseases or such that start in America that Chinese or other people of other nations attach an "American" stigma too. Fine. Doesn't offend me at all.

I suffer from short game... I can drive the ball pretty well, can reliably shape the ball from right to left, but my chipping and around the green game is inadequate. My iron play comes and goes. I am pretty reliable off the tee and on the green though.

The answer to a short game deficiency is simple. PRACTICE! Some things come naturally, but touch is not one of them.

I am the opposite. NO consistency off the tee or mid-game. Right, left, 10 yards off the ground, you never know where it is headed. Short game isn't bad.

I know it is just more practice hitting the ball.

Some golf teachers focus on philosophy while others focus on technique. I am a firm believer that the proper philosophy leads to proper technique. Sean Clement is a wonderful online teacher. His philosophy is "throwing the club at the ball." It makes the swing so much easier than focusing purely on technique. The ball will launch off the clubface and swinging on plane becomes a natural habit.

Good recommendation, I will have to look it up. My swing right now of the tee and intermediate game doesn't have that relaxed smooth feel you are referring to. My short game and chipping has that, oddly enough.

When people focus purely on technique it creates a disjointed swing feel where naturalness is nowhere to be found. Makes the game a hardship when it doesn't need to be. Throwing the club removes all the unnecessary crap which has no place in a fluid swing. It should bring a smile to your face.

so. Much. This.

The Chinese Government is largely responsible for this....from beginning to end. They destroyed samples of the virus and attempted to suppress the news of its capabilities. They also silenced doctors (and killed a few others in the process) who had direct knowledge of the situation and its potential. Their government knew of it two weeks before they ever disclosed publicly about the spread and exposure. They even let let 5000 people leave Wuhan without any screening while all of this was going on.

If it were me, I would call the "Chinese Government Virus".

Is your real name Hank Haney? Lol.

You summed up my swing on that first sentence, and despite the focus on technique, I never seem to feel like I am doing it the same, comfortably, each time.

I know a lot of it is just getting out there and hitting balls. I had a friend say just slow down. He said focus on old retired guys at the course, they can hit the ball well and straight, maybe not far, but their swings are slow and smooth, not trying to kill the ball.

I don't know how far I would go with the extent of this theory, but it sounds more believable than it came from animals in the market. Their cover-up and not addressing it until it exploded also makes it more believable, and as you said, they tried to silence everyone. I think they thought they could just shutdown Wuhan and it would be under control.

It sounds a lot more believable than animals in a market or eating a certain animal. That has been going on for hundreds if not thousands of years with no similar outbreak.

But there have been many outbreaks, they just weren't global because we couldn't easily travel from continent to continent. The SARS outbreak was even a recent one. It wasn't nearly as virulent or communicable, so it made less of a splash.

The idea that this is somehow a Chinese government conspiracy is just ridiculous. As I said before, Wuhan was a tinderbox because of SARS-like viruses that reside in the native wildlife there, combined with the propensity of the population to eat exotic animals.

Yes please. Or "Chinese communism government virus"

"Chinese" is not geography.

I mean, let's be honest, it's just a deafening dog-whistle. We are bright people, we know what is going on.

Real questions.. are you Chinese? Do you support communism? Do you identify as a woman?

The adjective chinese quite literally is geography

Correctomundo! The Chinese have an obsession with eating everything which moves. Their outdoor marketplace features the most outrageous food choices ever seen.

Yes you got me, I identify as a Communist Chinese woman. And no, the adjective "Chinese" is not "quite literally geography." Chinese people live all over the globe, not just in China.

Just like Oriental means out of the east yet it is supposed to be racist. People from Georgia are from the south yet that is okie dokie.

He's talking from an indigenous perspective.
