I am not going as far as saying not allowing people to go to work, like in SF, needs to be done across the country, but more restricitve measures may be needed than what we are dealing with right now, at least for parts of the country.
And I agree, these may be needed for months, not a few weeks. For those that feel there is "no way" the American public will go for this, I posted something similar on TOS a couple of days ago.
We have become such a soft, spoiled society in the 21st century. As cool called it, the burger kingers, that wants it our way, or no way. We are complaining that we have to spend more time in home with our families, can't watch an NBA game, can't sit down inside at a Chick-fil-A, or can't go party at SXSW or Coachella. And if we do this for more than a couple or few months, Americans will revolt against the government. We, myself included at times, whine most not about the fierceness of the virus or economic damage, but about the inconveniences and it better not last long, like it is a TV program we can turn off if we don't like it.
Yet just a generation ago, 15% of the country, our grandfathers and fathers, went across the ocean to fight a war that would last 4 years, many drafted/forced to go. Those at home had to give up common household items, forced into rationing to help produce supplies for the war effort. Families at home also were drafted, but into the labor force to help manufacture and produce items for our soldiers' defense. In the meantime, there were curfews on the West Coast, and minority groups were even rounded up and held. This effort and measures were in place for four years. Four freakin' years, not four months or maybe 14 months.
Perspective folks.
