March Madness and Covid-19

Again, you can't calculate New York's mortality rate yet because they are in the infant stages of this. They literally have zero cases that have resolved other than the ones that died. Washington state's mortality rate is 5.4%. You can't tell what it's going to be yet nationally, but looks like it might be about 1.5%. This thing is still expanding logarithmically, I wouldn't expect things to be opened back up for at least 2 months, maybe longer.

I would figure it is easier to diagnose a positive case versus diagnosing who has recovered for various reasons (one requires return visits), so some of these numbers aren't what they appear to be.

What do you mean "diagnose a positive case?" You diagnose a positive case when the test comes back positive.

You take the test which requires one medical visit. To be cleared of the virus requires a return visit if not more. Some will recover and not bother returning for a check up thus would it not make sense these people will not show up in the official stats.

Okay, but enough time hasn't elapsed to clear any of those people anyway. This has only been going on for two weeks at most in New York! That's why we don't have the numbers yet. This literally hasn't been a problem for epidemiologists anywhere else, it won't be a problem for them to calculate it in New York, when we get the numbers.

My name is Again? (now that is funny stuff).

In an ironic twist, Senator Rand Paul has tested positive for the novel coronavirus

and the senate is all up in arms because earlier this morning he was working out at the senate gym with other senators and had been at dinners and meetings with many of them over the last few days. it's no wonder we can't get the public to isolate themselves.

Exactly, the people are taking this as seriously as their leaders.

Most people do not know who Rand Paul is.

An overwhelming majority has a strong distaste for congress. Are they voted into office, yes, but they are not true leaders in the sense of the word and this comes from the mouths of the populous.

Exactly why people should be listening to respectable scientists and professionals in the field of epidemiology, not talking heads or politicians who think they're above the game.

Absolutely, and it's also why politicians should act responsibly.

I would say that Rand Paul is a very well known political figure. I would be surprised if most people don't know who that is.

Most as in >50%. Not a chance in hell (no way 165 million people are familiar with him). You are looking at it from your prism which follows politics to a degree. This is not so for the general public.

I mean a lot of people are familiar with Snoop Dog, but how many pattern their life after him?

No it isn't, he's a national figure.

Then why mention Kentucky? I know he's from there but if he is a national figure, as you say, then why mention it. Chances are many of those who know him are democrat and I'm supposed to believe they do as he does? Bulldonky.

Because he's a senator from Kentucky which means he's definitely known there, but that doesn't preclude him being known elsewhere.
