MBB TPT2 TRANSFER PORTAL THREAD 2

Dude.....50% of the Final Four.......what else do you need. Keep pretending that you know what you are talking about.

If a conference has two really good teams, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a tough conference. It could just be top-heavy, not a game-in, game-out slog like the Big 12 has been for several season running. So a player who puts up numbers in the Big 12 has, in my view, accomplished something greater than a guy who does it in a top-heavy conference.

Also, while a conference having two teams in the Final Four is a reasonable bragging point, it doesn't necessarily reflect on how good their conference--or even those two teams--were during the season. A Final Four requires of a team just a four-game hot streak, and often a team that makes the Final Four has benefited from how other games have played out.

I'm not taking a stand on Hugley one way or the other--I'm very much in the wait-and-see camp on all of our new players--but the ACC has not been a great conference of late.

Just checking the SOS for teams in the ACC. The team with the BEST SOS in the ACC was Duke at #34. The team with the WORST SOS in the Big12 was Texas Tech at #30. So yeah the Big12 was a much tougher conference overall. A couple of teams getting hot in the NCAA tournament is nice but that's a much smaller sample size than the whole season. By the way, Pitt's SOS was #62.

Two teams being really good out of a 15 team conference doesn't mean the conference was good. Don't be dumb, I don't have time for it.

AT MOST Pitt played those two teams, what, 4 times during the regular season? AT MOST? Leaves plenty of games against non-Final 4 teams. But you already knew that.

Nine of the 15 had winning records. Seven of the 15 won at least 20 games. Four won 25 or more. Five went to the NCAA tournament, Three went to the Eilte 8 and 2 went to the Final Four. The conference was 14-5 in the NCAA tournament....the Big 12 was 13-5.

So, in a "down" year they had the best record of all conferences in the NCAA tournament.

So, while I AGREE that the ACC isn't as strong as it once was...to try to downplay the entire conference just to make a player OU signed look mediocre is kind of weak.

I get the skepticism according to our year this year I don't get the constant nitpicking and pettiness in order to make the point.

UNC was a bubble team most of the season and they got hot for three weeks. They had basically the same roster this year, minus Manek, and again weren't very good. Them getting hot for three weeks last March doesn't mean that the league he played in was strong. And I would sure hope 60 percent of the league had winning records. In the Big 12, that number is usually 90 percent, I would guess.

Can't you chalk some of that up to coaching? Would you think those teams with the talent they had the last two years would have been bubble teams under Williams instead of Davis?

I think we can all agree you can have some pretty solid rosters with bad coaching and Good coaching with mediocre rosters.

Gotta love how some of these same anti-Moser posters who downplayed the strength of the conference the past couple seasons are now using the strength of the big12 to downplay the acquisition of a new Sooner…

Whether you like Moser or not, the truth of the matter is that if he doesn't make the NCAA tournament next season he's probably gone. It doesn't matter how strong your conference is if you don't win enough games. He needs to hit a home run with multiple recruits. I have my fingers crossed.

You probably said the same thing about last year's group.

THAT is why I'm being patient and letting it play out on the court first.

I thought GS would be a difference maker. He was at times, but his lack of athleticism stood out against top competition. I certainly expected more from Bam. He averaged 16 ppg at GW...I was hoping we would get 10-12 ppg out of him...as well as Noland, which neither happened.

I'll go out on a limb and guess you took a more negative approach back then too..it's just who you are (don't worry, you're not alone).

Why do you care what approach he took?

Relentless negativity grows tiresome quickly. I've been on both sides of that coin--I was called a sunshine pumper when so many were relentlessly criticizing Coach Kruger (I defended Sampson, too, until he cut and ran after getting us on probation). I might have defended Capel, too--I can't recall--but not for very long.

Now, I'm viewed as a negative poster by some posters (some of whom were vocal and longtime members of the Anybody but Kruger Club). I have tried to limit my negative posts (not always successfully), not because I think my takes are unreasonable or unfounded, but simply because, as I said above, relentless negativity grows tiresome. I sometimes go a week or more in which I erase five or six posts before I send them, just figuring I've made the same point enough times before.

My inclination is still strongly toward sunshine pumping, believe it or not. I was skeptical of the Moser hire but tried to take a wait-and-see approach. But he's so far given nothing for me to hang my sunshine-pumping hat on (I know some will disagree). I hold out hope that he will do so this season. I'm in wait-and-see mode with this nearly entirely new roster. I hope they show out big time.

Completely reasonable take. I know you’ve pegged me as Mr. Negativity and that’s fine. But I’ve been here nearly from the beginning and nobody pumped more sunshine than I did during the Capel years all the way through Buddy Hield. But I call them like I see them and there hasn’t been much to be positive about the last few years.

Actually, I think I was pretty excited about some of those guys and thought we'd put a much better team on the floor. So no, I wasn't negative last year.

Fool me once.....

Well over 75% of the negative comments I make are replies to folks that take one post I make, and blow it into something that it often isn't. If the people that don't like what I choose to post, or my conclusions or opinions, would just move on, they wouldn't have to get into a war of words and read more of it. I do NOT get on this board and just post negative thought after negative thought. I do NOT get on this board and just tear the team down constantly. I post my thoughts every so often, and when attacked or aggressively replied to, yes, I tend to jump in and defend my position. Somehow THAT gets turned into "WTSooner just likes to post negative things and blow up threads." That couldn't be further from the truth. But I've long posted my opinions and stood by them. I think I have a pretty good track record, though some will disagree.

I will say, I do believe you. There are a few on here that have dug in their heels so deeply against Porter that they wouldn't even enjoy a Sweet 16 next year.

Lol no way. Half would probably be encouraged by a winning record to start..

I do. Knew him from his Ada days back to Jh.
Know his coaches from Ada hs.
Coached against him.
Know his AAU coach.
Trust a source good enough from his skills factory days.
Throw in the extra year of a national basketball factory.

Yeah I’m qualified to comment.

Did I pass?

KenPom stats for everyone.

2022:
-ACC was ranked the 5th best conference with a +10.69 rating, compared to the Big12 at +18.74 who was #1.
-Pitt was 195th ranked with the 63rd overall SOS.

I have harped on this most of the last year, but conference are not even close to their SOS's.

2023:
-ACC was the 7th ranked conference this year at +8.58, Big12 was 1st at +17.99.
-UNC was ranked 43rd with the 50th ranked SOS.
-OU was ranked 54th with the 2nd ranked SOS.
-UNC played 4 top 25 teams in KP. 0-4 in those games. (20-13)
-OU played 14 top 25 teams in KP. 4-10 in those games (15-17)

(devil's advocate argument for UNC, not winning any Top 25 games, was they didn't lose a game by more than 12)

Some are way too quick to equate caution with anti-Moser.
I like PM, personally. I was concerned about him when hired due to lack of regional ties, but I like his energy, use of timeouts, and increased ball movement compared to Kruger, whom I also liked and supported.

However, 2 years back, I was excited about getting a Duke PG and a guy who lit up KU in the tourney, only to be let down when the season played out. But I was still in Moser's camp and hoping for improvement.

Then, I was excited by getting a proven scorer and arhletic wing in GS and Bam, respectively, then dissappointed again when we got worse year-to-year.

I'm still hoping PM gets it done, but I'm not counting chickens until I see how it pans out. I don't think that's an anti-Moser stance.

I feel like many have expressed caution and legitimate concerns only to be labeled anti-Moser. I'd like to think we all want to see OU win every game, but it seems reasonable and fair to understand that many have concerns given we have few b12 level proven players, no 4 man, and yet another brutal schedule. Those things can be acknowledged without being anti-Moser or anti-OU, right?
