MBB TPT2 TRANSFER PORTAL THREAD 2

Aziz Bandaogo to Cincy. Very good pickup for a new conference opponent.

Cincy is going to be one of the better teams in the league next year. Getting back into a major conference is going to do wonders for that program. When UCONN was in the American they disappeared, got back into the Big East and became a power again.

They landed really good transfers from Butler, Kentucky, Temple, and Utah Valley to put together a really nice roster.

PG: Daveon Thomas (6'1'' 180) - Juco transfer from Kilgore JC in Texas. Averaged 19.6 points per game, 6.2 rebounds with 3.2 assists.
SG: CJ Frederick (6'3'' 185) - Transfer from Kentucky. Averaged 7.9 points and 2.1 assists over 79 games, with 67 starts. Fredrick has also shot 41 percent from behind the arc and 78 percent at the foul line
SF: Simas Lukosius (6'6'' 225) - Transfer from Butler. Averaged 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists per game as a sophomore last year. 38% 3pt shooter. Very good Big East transfer.
PF: Viktor Lahkin (6'11'' 240) - Averaged 11.6 points and 7.1 rebounds (team-high) while starting 32 of the 33 games in which he appeared
C: Aziz Bandaogo (7'0'' 215) - Averaged 11.5 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game for Utah Valley last year as a sophomore. One of the best shot blockers in the nation

I hadn’t heard that they signed a couple of those transfers. The Kentucky kid was a knockdown shooter who went ice cold late in the season. That’s a decent starting five but unless they have a lot of good bench players, it won’t be one of the best teams in the Big 12. But they’ll be very competitive assuming PG isn’t a weakness.

we will see if bandaogo has to sit out or if he can play this year ..

Hey, his retroactive recommendations are always spot on!

Also the volume over the years to go along with the fact that Iowa State, Kansas State, and Texas Tech are gonna have good years at some point.

McCollum is light years ahead of small.

Garrison is a center.

No one on either OU or OSU’s roster moves the needle on paper. You can hope there is a surprise like McCollum or Hughley for OU. As far as Smalls for OSU, he’s just a guy who put up numbers on a bad team. He’s not that good. Also was hurt a lot . OSU’s backcourt is suspect as hell. Also, I don’t expect Garrison to be more than an 8 point 5 rebound guy as a freshman. That’s a stretch in itself if he gets those numbers.

If OSU gets that from Garrison that would be great for them. He’s a defender & willing passer. All about winning with him.

Well....here you go:

We,ve had the NIL discussion several times in this thread. Some talk about how we need a better NIL game and some say that isn't as important. Here is an article I borrowed from On3 about NIL so you have a better idea.

says you gotta have NIL even for marginal players

Good article and thanks for sharing it. I found this quote alarming to our situation........

“You can’t build anything sustainable without retention,” one coach in the Big 12 told On3. “The best programs have good retention, which means you’ve done a good job evaluating and developing players, and you have built a culture where guys want to stay. You can’t recruit eight or nine guys every year and expect to be cutting down nets. Returning seven or eight guys each year and only bringing in three or four new faces is where we want to be.”

I think the allure of NIL is giver than actuality. I heard Bacot got 50k last year. The rumor was he got a million.

For OU, I found out they have a collective where players can get 20k. However there are so many appearances and requirements to get it, it’s almost impossible.

Also Kentucky had to find loopholes for Oscar by having a camp in the Bahamas for extra days due to NIL being a law specifically for American players. So many international players and players from Canada are on the outside looking in.

The NIL is what’s it is all about. Went to a booster dinner and JOE and Porter discussed the state of NIL. Now money is the first thing they want to talk about. Not the University or the culture. One recruit wanted $10,000 to just come for a visit. All have agents and that is who you deal with. A couple of the top players wanted $400,000 to $500,000. It is a mess right now and may take legislation to get it under control. Coaches worst nightmare is to receive a call from top players who you thought were secure that they are entering the portal.

A million I've not seen, but I have seen six figures a LOT. If we are throwing around $20k that is embarrassing...but I think we are touting more than that. I don't know how much but I am willing to bet we are not paying out the numbers others are in the Big 12. Not because we couldn't but because we won't.....yet.

I don't know anything for certain but I am just guessing on part of it. I just thought the article gave a pretty good insight into things across the board in basketball.

If OU football can sign a top 5 class following a 6-7 season and with a relatively pedestrian NIL program currently, OU basketball should be able to recruit well enough to field a top 25-30 team. Coaching and development is still a thing, especially in basketball.

Why do you do this? I posted a post to show what people are saying about NIL that LITERALLY says NIL is a factor, even for marginal players and you immediately post "well if OU football can......."

OU basketball is NOT OU football. They do not have the history OU football does, nor the long-term success OU has had in recruits lifetimes.

I absolutely believe we should and can have a top 25-30 team but the point is that NIL ISSSSSSS a factor today more so in basketball then in football. That is the gist of the article.

Where did I say I expected OU basketball to match OU football with a top 5 class? I said they should still be able to be a top 25-30 program. And my post wasn't even directed at you. If you don't like what I have to say, move on to the next post. Tire of you *****ing and complaining one minute about negative posts, then watching you post trash like this that does nothing but elicit a reply like this.

I do not care about your opinion. It's not respected by me. Does that help?
