MBB TPT2 TRANSFER PORTAL THREAD 2

One of the videos I watched called Moore a “slashing wing.” I agree with that. I like his game in transition and from ten feet and in! He plays with a high motor and with a lot of determination on defense and on offense.

Nothing I saw in those videos makes me think he can play the five, and probably not a traditional four. But, I like what he’ll bring to the game as a blue color guy who can score inside, even if it’s as a back up off of the bench (which is likely what he’ll be in my opinion).

Bob P seems to think he will be the starting four unless they find someone else in the portal. I hope he is wrong. He and Soares seem like they could be useful backups playing 15 minutes or so, at a combo of the three and four. But if one of them is starting at the four and the other is the primary backup, we have taken a huge step down from Hill, unless one or both of them takes a massive step forward from their career numbers.

From a stats perspective this is a bit underwhelming. From an athleticism perspective it seems like a bit of an upgrade....but that 3 pt % is DREADFUL.

His film doesn't look awful but it is highlights so you don't see some of the atrocious 3 pt shooting....If he is part of a platoon at the 4 maybe this isn't bad. Maybe him and Soares together manning that spot?

I'll be very pleased if we pick up Spencer. I could easily get on board for that one.

Oof. That 3 % is sooo bad. Hit like 4 out of 35.. i think most on this board could do that, honestly. Unless he drastically improves, a 3 attempt from him is basically a turnover. I wish he were 6'8 or taller at least. Puzzling at this moment, but im glad were still filling spots. He shot an okay-ish % from FT atleast. I think it was 68% (not really good for a guard/smaller forward tho).

Im hoping going from 7th most Mins per game at GT, to playing any amount of minutes in the best basketball league in the county may get his competitive juices flowing so he works the hardest hes ever worked in his life.

I wouldn't call it a HUGE step down...but from first look it's definitely a "meh". That 3 pt % is what gets me...Hill wasn't a great 3 pt shooter but compared to 11% he was a sharp shooter.
Someone posted comparative stats for equal minutes and it was close with the shooting percent edge to Hill and rebounding, etc to Moore.
One other thing that stands out to me is Hill played about 25 lbs heavier which was another advantage.

IMHO Jalen was our best overall player. This guy came off the bench more often than not for a bad team in a much worse league. I just think that is a massive step down.

Bigger picture, this is exactly what many of us feared, and we got constantly blasted for being pessimistic. As more and more good fours came off the board, we were told to relax because there were still many good options available. People even suggested we may be able to get someone who withdraws from the draft. And yet . . . here we are. Our fears were quite realistic, and they appear to be coming to fruition.

Idk about drastically because I'm not sure about the new guy defensively but their stats aren't wildly different so we'll see...but on paper it looks like a bit of a step down but I don't think we went backwards at our other spots

As others have said, it will be interesting how he is used. If this is an experienced guy who comes off the bench it could be a solid addition. If this is our plan for a starting 4, then I'm less optimistic. Similar to how I see Soares' role. Luckily, we have starter and backup minutes to fill at the four position.

I agree that it would be a disappointment if he or Soares are the starting 4. It isn’t much of a downgrade from hill though. I’m just not sure it will be enough to get us to where we need to go.

I don't see how he could play the 5 at all, given his size.

I mean, you can play him there, but you are essentially playing 5 guards, or 4 guards and a small PF. He isn't a big dude, height or weight wise, that I can see.

I think it was in the context of playing against a smaller school. I wouldn’t want him playing there either, and we don’t particularly need him too since we have multiple players who seem like 5s only.

Way better mechanics than Jalen Hill. His offensive game has more polish and has room to grow.

Jalen Hill:
Freshman Year: 1.9pts, 2.1reb, 39.6 FG%
Sophomore Year: 4.4pts, 2.9reb, 44.7 FG%
---
Junior Year: 9.1pts, 5.9 reb, 57.9 FG%
Senior Year: 9.7pts, 5.8reb, 49.8 FG%

Jalon Moore:
Freshman Year: 2.8pts, 1.9 reb, 45.2 FG%
Sophomore Year: 7.6pts, 4.7reb, 43.1 FG%

Wouldn't be surprised to see a leap from Moore next year, especially in Porter's system. Similar to the jump Jalen took when Porter came here.

I’ve seen him called a small forward on most sites. Between him and Soares, it seems we have signed a couple 3s with zero shooting ability, and they will both have to play out of position for us unless we sign an actual 4 with our last remaining scholarship.

An undersized athletic 4 that can defend multiple positions but can't shoot 3s. How could any of us ever be excited about a player like that?

What a clown post.

Moore looks a little more athletic and looks to be better defensively than Hill. He MAY have a little better handle and creativity as a slasher. Definitely plays more like a big bully guard.

Hill was a better shooter and played considerably more back to the basket. Like an undersized big.

We don't need a back to the basket 4. We need someone who is athletic, can rebound, defend multiple positions and score around the basket. Perimeter scoring would be great but not a necessity. Same with a post up game. They have different games, but I wouldn't call Moore a major downgrade from Hill by any means

I'd like to see us play with better pace and run the floor more. The guys we have brought in seem more conducive to that. We seem to have gotten more length and more athleticism, which was a goal this off-season. Will that relate to wins? We'll see....but we should be better in that regard.

My concerns are more about shooting. Have we improved in that category? Mehhhh I don't know...if we add Spencer that would help tremendously.

I'm cautiously optimistic but who knows

Feel like our team went zero athleticism to a team that is full of it now though. Shooting still concerns me and maybe size/blocking shots.

Shot blocking is my number one concern over shooting. Unless Keita or Norweather can be that guy, not sure we'll have anyone to fill that role.

Jalon Moore in 20.5 MPG had almost as many blocks as Tanner Groves OU's team leader last season ..

not a need but...
