MBB TPT2 TRANSFER PORTAL THREAD 2

If we have zero chance to compete then why even field a team? Why tune in and watch as we struggle to be on the bubble for the tournament? Our program was only behind the elite blue bloods for about 3 decades and now I'm hearing that we just can't compete anymore in this environment. It sounds to me like the university is content with just being a football and now possibly a softball school. Basketball is an afterthought. Maybe this is the new order of NCAA sports. If so I may not last much longer as a fan. Maybe I'm spoiled but I'm not content to cheer and celebrate if we happen to squeak into the NIT.

And it sounds like even the football program is making all kinds of excuses these days. Softball and the other women's sports are really carrying the water for the athletic department right now.

No offense but that doesn't sound like much of a fan of OU basketball to me

But I get it. I'm about done with it too as well. Not because we are mediocre but because of what the sport has become

I've been a huge fan since the days of Choo Kennedy and Tim McAlister.

Well you idiotically said I didn't sound like an OU fan. What's your point? Are you just being a troll???

Well you didn't. That was my point. Maybe your post was meant to be sarcastic? But I don't consider someone a fan that is questioning if we should even field a team if we have "zero chance to compete" and questioning if you even want to tune in if we aren't winning.

I care about putting a competitive team on the court. If we literally can't do that then why bother? This isn't inter-murals.

OU football has finished top ten in seven of the last eight years, but they have one down year in the biggest transtion the program has had in over twenty years, and this clown wants to trash the program. You can't possibly have any friends.

Well why are you still here then?

What you are describing is a fair weather fan. Atleast you are owning it

Apparently you can't read. I put a lot of ifs in that paragraph because there are a lot of people here saying we just don't have the NIL and the administration won't finance a new facility etc. IF all those things are true then it means we can't possibly compete. I'm here BECAUSE I AM A FAN. Why are you here?

That’s why I asked if you were being sarcastic. It’s good to know that you will still follow the team even if we stink

I've followed the team through several stinky seasons, even the late Capel years. The difference is that back then I never thought we couldn't compete with the big boys. We almost always were a lock for the tournament and sometimes made a deep run.

IF we reach a point where it's impossible for OU basketball to be competitive in the new NCAA climate of NIL and agents, I might decide that it's taking up too much of my time. Life is short.

The past 7 seasons post-Buddy have been pretty lackluster for me. We've had one season above .500 in conference, and that was 9-8. With the exception of about a month with Trae, I haven't felt like this team could realistically belong in a Sweet 16 game at any point during this stretch (and that team didn't even belong in the tourney by season's end). We took the mediocrity plunge (or worse), and as NU football has shown us, there's no guarantee that a program like ours will be back. It sucks.

I'll never abandon OU basketball. I don't actively follow every game anymore, though, and it seems like it has been ages since I planned my day around an OU basketball game. I've scheduled my day around softball more than basketball these past few years. Hell, add baseball to that category, even though it was only one magical season.

Credit to WhoIsMikeJones, OU has reached out to WVU/Manhattan G Jose Perez (per Joe Tipton/Jose himself).

See that UNC Tarheels picked up a 6'8 bruiser from WVA who only played 11
minutes per game last year. Seems to have potential. Of course UNC seems to have a crowded front court to being with.
OU has 1 center with heft and no one else and we can't get a sniff from the portal for players who could step into a glaring gap on our team.
Discouraging.

If UNC… Ou isn’t unc… is scraping the bottom for wvu backups… how do expect Ou to get super stars at the 4?

I don’t ever expect Moser to sign a really good big. But you were among the posters who all but assured the board as recently as a couple months ago that there was still plenty of time for us to land a good four. So why are you changing your tune, other than to provide cover for our staff’s failure to get one. As for UNC, if they are signing him to back up a good player, that’s a lot different than when we sign a guy like Soares and may end up starting him.

And who has asked for a “superstar?” We’ve asked for a good four, preferably one who actually plays the position instead of a three who will play the four by necessity.
