MBB TPT2 TRANSFER PORTAL THREAD 2

You are right, not that bad compared to those guys. I wouldnt say outstanding, but def good solid numbers.

One thing I wanted to point out that, against our toughest 8 opponents this last year, Hill did have all above 100 rated ORtg games. With 4 of those being his best offensive games all year. Big Game Hill?

Hill:

Can guard 1 through 5. Might be the only player in the conference that can. An all league defender who held the conference player of the year to a bad shooting night in Lawerence Field house.

Practically a double digit average scorer. Average that through most of the season despite Groves(a below average player) and Sherfield a lead guy who’s really a secondary guy being the focal point of the offense.

Great feel for the game.

Averaged the most minutes because he was the most valuable to team success.

Good ball handler for his position.

Great passer for his position.

Outstanding rebounder.

Started every game.

He will be one of the most highly sought after guys in the portal. Will likely end up at UNLV.

A real basketball knowledgeable guy would see that and understand his value and not cherry pick the OSU game. You also omitted the Alabama game……

You’re basketball knowledge card is revoked…..

"Outstanding rebounder" = 5 rbs a game..

Avged the most minutes and started every game on a losing record team.

Dude cant guard a 5..

The love you're giving him isnt warranted imo. I look forward to seeing what he does elsewhere and even where hell go

Idk if id want the "lesser" boone. He apparently dropped a 30 pt game at pacific tho

You have inexplicably taken to misrepresenting stats. Hill averaged 5.8 rebounds per game. You can either cite that precise stat or you can round up to 6. That's how it works. You don't get to knock off nearly a full rebound per game from his total just because it helps your argument. Or if you choose to, you can look forward to being corrected.

I think his brother will hit the portal and they will be a package. I imagine they will chase some NIL.

OU has to get the guys that don’t take the Arkansas, Kansas, Memphis offers early and are left holding the bag.

Similar to 10 ppg.

But yes, he should have rounded up to 6, since it is past the 5.5+ mark. We should try not to round up to whole numbers bc it can be misrepresented. So 1 or 2 decimal places will suffice. (not really how it works, but that is how people use it to lean to one point or another. One way is easy and broad, the other is more precise and in the weeds.)

He was a 9.65/5.75/1.34 player at 2nd most mpg on the team. Grant Sherfield was 1st. (32.875 for Hill, 33.718 for Sherfield) [this was not directed at you, but others who are saying Hill was first in MPG, but its damn close]

This is the new era we live in. Kentucky is losing top 30 recruits to the portal to chase more NIL. Without some rules changes, this will create a lot of problems. I think players should get paid but this goes way beyond just getting paid. Renegotiating every year will benefit nobody.

How can you build a sustainable program? It will be a complete overhaul every year. That’s not good for player development or the program stability. Ultimately, it will hurt the game and everyone involved. They should bring back the transfer rules that force players to sit out if they transfer.

Also, 99% of players will not play professionally and this environment will prevent them from getting any kind of employable education. In the overwhelming majority of cases, Transferring every year will not be a path to an employable degree. So, that will eliminate the “free education” for many players, leaving them no better off than they were in high school. At the very least, they should come out of this with an education and job opportunities.

Im not worried. I actually get to post however i want if you can believe that.. running off memory, i thought it was 5.2ish or something. But yeahhh you totally win the argument that hes an outstanding rebounder bc of the extra 0.8 rebounds a game.

I suspect the top programs will find a way to still be good year in and year out. They will just have to do it in a different way. The roster turnover will be much greater than in the past, and some people will hate it. But I do think it will also give lower profile schools a chance to succeed if they can put together a good NIL package and/or selectively grab some of the players who leave elite schools because they aren't getting minutes.

Apparently 5 vs 6 RPG is a Hill worth dying on.

Hill is a fine player, but not worth all the debate and bickering. He’s gone and hopefully we can find a reasonable replacement/upgrade.

On that note, would be great to steer the conversation back towards potential portal additions vs losses. Any new news out there?

That would be great, indeed, but I’m not aware of any indication we lead for any good players. Hard to know since the OU media are too busy taking video of guys taking handoffs against air during spring practice, and interviewing every assistant coach for hours.

With Sherfield declaring.....how many scholarships do we actually have open?

I know Godwin took one.....how many do we have left?

If JG leaves that will be one more.

Our list of needs just went up.

1. A starting guard unless PM wants to give the 3 spot to Cooper right out the gate.
2. A starting caliber 4 man.
3. A starting caliber 5 man.
4. Bench players. Need a bench guard or two.

The good news is we are in on a lot of guys....just have to close on some. Boone putting his name in the portal is odd since he transferred once already.....but I'd bet he and his brother plan on both heading to the same place this time.

If our NIL game is getting better we need to go after the kid from ORU.

I'm interested in following who the 4 and 5 will be. Those have to be coming from the portal.

The ORU kid is likely looking for something we can't offer (ie, NIL, a much bigger stage, much better team, closer to home). He would be a great fit though, assuming he can play some defense (I really don't know if he can/does or not).

He's from Texas, so hopefully he doesn't end up at Houston or Texas (from a competition stand point).

not a surprise but

if I were Uzan, Oweh, Cole or Cooper, I'd have serious concerns right about now.
