MBB TPT2 TRANSFER PORTAL THREAD 2

If I counted right, 12 SEC players and 8 Big 12. Obviously SEC has more teams. The Big 12 is clearly the best league, but those of you who think the conference change is going to be a huge help are mistaken. The talent in the SEC is very good. We still need to dramatically improve our athleticism.

i don't know if it will be a huge help but it is definitely an easier league. I'd say we have had pretty good success against the sec recently

It seems to be a lack of available information out there on credible transfers for the last 2 scholarships. Are we waiting on someone trying out for the NBA or is the basketball insiders that tight-lipped? My guess a little of both or we struck on the difference makers and are down to bench supporters.

I'd bet a fair amount that we aren't in the running for anyone who has a real chance at staying in the draft.

I think we're waiting on some of the names that have been mentioned here, that as of now, appear to be heading elsewhere.

I'm sure the staff is working on other options discretely. Biggest need is probably a starting 4, otherwise we're going to be playing A LOT of small ball.

yep a starting quality 4 capable of 28-32 min is really the only need ..

Soares / others can handle the other 8-12 min ..

and then the last scholarship is just a bonus ..

lets Reset the Board .... what we know what we think what we hope ..

OU is in the top 5 for Keshad Johnson SDSU

some thought he was just OU/USC but he is taking visits ... don't think OU lands him but still in the fight ..

smoke / rumors that

Isaac Mushila might visit undersized 4 that is a very good rebounder ..

I just don’t see how we can view that last scholarship as a bonus. I was just checking ESPN’s rankings of this season’s transfers. McCollum is the only one of ours listed in the top 75, and he was around 68. I’m surprised by that, and I know other sites have much different rankings. And as I’ve said, I like three of our guys. But my point is, we are far from having a roster that is so stacked that we shouldn’t try and upgrade talent aggressively. The only way we should “save” the final scholarship is if we truly can’t find anyone who can walk and chew gum.

I agree 100% about not saving the scholarship especially if used on a grad transfer but if you only went off rankings, KSU filled spots last year in the portal but there is NO WAY that anyone would have thought that their roster was good enough to not only make the NCAA tourney let alone an elite 8. You now have a lot of people in the general public and on this message board claiming OU screwed up when they had the chance to hire Tang based off of last years results. Johnson was high on the #'s list last year but the rest of those guys weren't considered GREAT gets by anyone hence the reason why KSU was picked last in the conference preseason.

I'm not saying (at all) that OU is going to storm up the rankings with what they currently have but just because a lot of the guys are not deemed program changers by these site rankings doesn't mean that OU won't be vastly improved. Pittsburgh is another example of hitting on the right guys in order to turn a team around in one season.

Fact is, no one knows what rosters are better or worse until they start lacing them up again in the fall. All we can do is hope for the best :) Again though, I absolutely think they should take a guy if for nothing else, experience in a grad transfer if possible.

"Saving" a scholarship makes absolutely no sense in today's college basketball environment.

Agreed and same for red shirting unless due to an injury. I almost feel like if you ask a kid to red shirt you are sealing your fate that he is going to transfer after the season is over. You might get a few here and there to stick around that "see the plan" but for the most part, kids want to play now and the portal makes that possible in today's game.

1000%.

The ONLY reason i think it could ever possibly make sense, is if you do not have any SRs so you do not know with complete certainty what schollies you could give to high school kids you are recruiting. Luckily, we will have 3 SRs.

Use them all

Weird here sometimes…

If we dont use it’s a waste ( I agree)

But he said kid transfers… too much turnover. Porter has lost the team. Culture sucks. Etc

And with all the movement there's a 99% chance that a spot will open up whether you have seniors or not. And with the portal you can always coax a kid out the door if you think you need a spot (I think that's kind of a dick move, but college basketball is a business).

Another big one in the portal just now, Arthur Kaluma from Creighton.

No one is saying that. The issue isn’t losing kids who don’t play. That has nothing to do with culture. The issue is losing three starters to the portal in two seasons, and not bringing in enough talented players to replace them. I promise you KU fans don’t mind losing four guys who never saw the floor when they are replacing them with guys like Dickinson, McCullar, and Morris. Roster turnover isn’t the issue. It’s Moser’s inability to integrate the new players as quickly as other coaches that is the worry.

Moser should be aware of him (creighton connection). Hopefully we can get in on some of these guys who just portaled today.
