MBB TPT2 TRANSFER PORTAL THREAD 2

Is there some sort of holdup on Hughley officially signing? I haven't seen a release for him like the other 3...

you have brought up mccullar several times now as some great get for KU ..

he is a worse shooting jalen hill .. basically

It's only from deep that Hill shot poorly. Overall, his shooting percentage was good--behind only Godwin and (just barely) TGroves on last year's team and 10 percentage points better than Sherfield.

Do you watch basketball? Why do you think he got a combine invite and why do you think he is projected to be drafted? Is it possible that his three point percentage this season isn’t the only thing he should be evaluated on? He played on a team with a first team All American who scored 20 a game, and another guy who was the most feared shooter in the country. They didn’t exactly need him to be an offensive star.

I desperately hope he stays in the draft because Self feels like he could be next year’s Jalen Wilson if he comes back. McCullar and Hill are both very good college players. If you don’t think he was a great pickup for KU, I don’t know what to tell you.

Tell us you are a KU fan without telling us you are a KU fan....;)

He has averaged 9.3 pts a game over a 4 year career and he's going to up that to 20 a game and be an all-american next year? There is zero chance that Self believes that. McCullar is good but he's not that type of player. He's athletic and dribbles fine but his main contribution is his defense.

He claims to be a KU hater, but his undying admiration for Self and the players tells an entirely different story.

LOL yeah, what an awful trait -- that even though I hate a program, I can recognize that they have a HOF coach and many very good to great players.

I won't get into all the details about my family history, the number of times I have been physically and verbally threatened by KU fans because of how passionately I cheer against them in Allen Fieldhouse, or the number of people who despise me for hating KU despite living in a KU hotbed.

I guess for some on the board, life is as simple as "OU good, everyone else bad." "OU clean, everyone else cheats." "OU players and coaches great, all others overrated."

To say he's average is way more off base than saying he's the next Jalen Wilson.

If any of us came to this board without the name and just the stats and said the following player OU just signed in the portal was going to be the next Jalen Wilson (20 pts/game and All-American) next season, what would the backlash be?

2022-2023 Season-

Wilson averaged 11 points and shot 26 percent from 3 last year. Averaged 7.4 boards, 1.8 assists, and shot 72 percent from the line. And suffice it to say, he isn't nearly the defender McCullar is.

But hey, I'm sure you have a much better feel for KU players than Bill Self. And notice that I didn't say that Self specifically predicted 20 ppg and first team All America. He said he thought he could make a similar leap. That was before they signed Dickinson, but, again, what the heck does Self know about college basketball?

Would love to get in on him. Super talented and always puts constant pressure on the rim on both ends.

Wow, three huge impact guys in the past 24 hours (including the Creighton and Tennessee kids). I'm sure every school in the country will be interested.

Interesting that Creighton has lost a couple really good players coming off an Elite 8 run. Wonder if that is a sign of trouble, or purely NIL related. I would actually think Creighton would be in pretty good position from an NIL standpoint, since they have good fans and no football program to compete with.

You didn't answer the question at all. My question was, what sort of backlash would posters like yourself give to the "overly optimistic posters" on this board if we came running in here with a player with those career stats saying he was going to be an All-American next season?

All we read on this board from a lot of posters is about the players OU brings in is we have to wait and see being from smaller conferences and what not. This is a guy that has been in the big 12 for 4 years and essentially has been the same guy for the last 3. All the sudden he is going to start lighting up the conference for 10+ more points than his career average?

He is also a guard compared to Wilson who mainly played the 4 and is a few inches shorter than Wilson. Color me skeptical that he is going to improve his game that much in a year whether or not Bill Self says he could or not. You don't think that Self is just saying these things so he returns for another year? He HOPES he comes back so he's going to say things that can make that happen. He is a solid college player but no, I don't think he's an All-American based on his last 4 years on the court.

Completely missed my point.

And you completely miss the point. Boulder asked why I have mentioned McCullar as a good pickup for KU. I pointed out that he is going to likely be drafted and that I hope he is because I would hate to have him back on KU's roster. The conversation had nothing to do with OU. You were the one who brought that up.

But to answer your question, irrelevant as it may be -- KU regularly produces draft picks and first-team All Amercians, and their coach has had lots of players make massive leaps before the final college season (Wilson, Mason, Graham.) That's why his statement is a million times more credible in my eyes than the annual predictions on this board from people who think someone on our roster has NBA potential after they have a couple good games. And you are so far off when it comes to Self. He always advises his guys to turn pro when it is in their best interest. He doesn't flatter guys to try to get them to come back. Self may be a cheat when it comes to NCAA rules, but if you have spent any time listening to him talk about players, he is as blunt as it gets.
