MBB TPT2 TRANSFER PORTAL THREAD 2

But to answer your question, irrelevant as it may be -- KU regularly produces draft picks and first-team All Amercians, and their coach has had lots of players make massive leaps before the final college season (Wilson, Mason, Graham.) That's why his statement is a million times more credible in my eyes than the annual predictions on this board from people who think someone on our roster has NBA potential after they have a couple good games. And you are so far off when it comes to Self. He always advises his guys to turn pro when it is in their best interest. He doesn't flatter guys to try to get them to come back. Self may be a cheat when it comes to NCAA rules, but if you have spent any time listening to him talk about players, he is as blunt as it gets.

Not sure how ANY of that answers what sort of Backlash this board would give if I said a Career 10+ pt player TRANSFERRING to OU was going to be an All-American? The 3 you named were all recruited to KU and played there from day one.

Regardless, I'm sorry for derailing the thread and we should get back to Portal talk!

Ha! Sorry if I missed the point? I don't think he's "average" but I definitely don't think he's an All-American either :)

He's 3rd team all big 12 & 1st team all defense. The point is he's closer to being an all-american next year than being average.

Agree we need to get back to portal talk and news or rumors who we have in the pipeline for the last 2 scholarships. Sometimes the board degenerates.

everyone is very very quiet right now .. not sure why .. but not much info is getting out ..

To say he's average is way more off base than saying he's the next Jalen Wilson.

He is. Just like Jalen Hill. Good players but average 4 year guys. By your 4th year you should be a double digit decent rebounding guy. He was 10 and 7. Hill was 10 and 6.5.

I mean I get you're a troll OSU fan but this is just dumb. How can you be good and average?

Visit isn’t happening. Idk who changed plans.

Still time for 2 guys. No need to rush at this point.

We'll fill the spots......and some solid names have popped up the last couple of days....I think we'll get a quality guy or two...just have to wait it out. I'd bet we are leaning more grad transfer for a year to keep spots open for that next class.

Why? We will have plenty of open scholarships next offseason, and every offseason after that, as will every team in America.

I meant leaning toward picking up grad transfers...one year guys to have that scholarship next year as well.

I know. I just don't understand the need. We will have plenty of scholarships available even if we sign two more transfers with multiple years of eligibility.

you can't really recruit guys with no open spots .. that doesn't work for a variety of reasons ..

What Wichita is saying is that every year moving forward is going to be a dumpster fire and the roster will completely turn over every year. And kids don't wanna play for us.

I guess why even recruit at all.

As usual, you misunderstand. To be clear: every team from the national champions down to team number 330 in the NET will have open roster spots Avey year. You absolutely can recruit knowing that. This isn’t middle school. It’s perfectly fine to recruit guys not knowing exactly how those spots will become available.

Example: KSU is hitting the portal hard. They don’t KNOW whether Tomlin and Johnson will stay in the draft. They expect Johnson to stay in the draft and Tomlin to come back to school. Tang noted that if Johnson surprises them and decides to come back, they will not have any trouble finding roster spots for everyone they want/need. It’s really not that tough a concept. So to think we can’t/shouldn’t recruit a multi year guy now because of concerns about scholarships in 2024 is naive and shortsighted, and is based on how things were done in the past.

Can we get a players only transfer thread? You guys are killing the fun.

The posts you are likely complaining about are directly relating to the portal and whether we should only recruit grad transfers for our remaining spots. Just because you don’t agree with/like them doesn’t mean they aren’t on topic. And since we apparently aren’t known to be in on anyone at the moment, it would be pretty hard to keep the thread going at all if it was limited to specific players.

Such a complainer. You aren't missing any "huge" Portal news because an actual conversation about OU basketball has broken out.
