Michael Porter quote today about Oklahoma

Sad for all parties. He'll go to Mizzou, where they will miss the tournament, he and his brother will go pro after year, and Porter Sr. will be out on the street in 3 years when Cuonzo bolts again before getting fired.

I'm not sure that's sad though. They'll all make money, and Missouri will still be a dumpster fire. Win win IMO

True. It's not as bad; but I just thought I heard an NCAA rule where if you're recruiting a kid you can't hire his father as an assistant. It was Michigan football or something

That's what I thought as well...but I THINK it's they can't be hired for a non-coaching position...like basketball operations...one of those BS jobs that a university can "make up" so family gets hired...

I THINK...

Cuonzo is a good hire for Mizzou, he will do very well there...especially in an underachieving SEC. He will go after the Matt Painter kids instead of trying to get the Steve Alford's of the West Coast.

Cuonzo Martin becomes highest-paid hoops coach in MU history

Sweet deal for coach Martin, age 45. His head coaching record can be found here ...

Michael Porter Sr. accepts assistant coach job at MU

In May, Michael Porter Sr. — who was an assistant coach for the Missouri women’s team under his sister-in-law, Coach Robin Pingeton, from 2013-16 — agreed to take an assistant coaching job for the men’s team at Washington under longtime friend Lorenzo Romar. The rest of the Porter family followed him to Seattle, and Michael Porter Jr. signed with Washington in November. Jontay committed to the Huskies in August 2015 but announced last week he was also reopening his recruitment.

Lol, so Porter Sr.'s much balleyhooed coaching experience with the Mizzou women's team came because he was hired by his sister-in-law. What a farce.

Just curious, what do you guys see as the starting lineup next year if Porter was to come to OU?

And for the love of God, don't throw out a lineup that has Porter or Doolittle starting at the 3. Not going to happen.

Young, McGusty, Porter, Doolittle, Lattin. Porter is a 3.

Young, McGusty, Porter, Doolittle, Lattin. Porter is a 3.

We'll see.

The number of kids that are 6'10 and growing that play the 3 as true freshman in college is a VERY short list. I get that he is the #1 recruit in the nation for a reason, but he'd be better served playing the 4 in today's game.

NBA is a different story. College =/= NBA

I think we would have gone KU style, and done Young, McGusty, Odomes, Porter, Lattin. This is how they played with Jackson. Kruger likes the stretch 4 type players.

But it doesn't matter.

Next year will be Young, McGusty, Odomes, Doolittle and Lattin. Will be a fun group. Just need the bench to produce

Depends on their skillset. Gordon Hayward played the 3 in college. You're right it isn't common in college but it does happen.

He would play the 4 some but I think that's the lineup that starts.

KU style is usually bigger than this year, they tried out Bragg to take Ellis' spot but he hasn't performed well enough & Lucas isn't dominant in the low post. They probably go big again next year with Azibuke returning.

Definitely agree. I should have clarified "KU style this year", which is actually Lon Kruger's style all the time. Get a stretch 4 who can shoot.

M. Porter will not be just any 6' 10" freshman. He has the skills to play the three at OU or any other school he happens to choose.

I agree with BCSooners: Young, MGusty, Porter, Doolittle and Lattin, in the position order they would play.

Not a surprise, but committed to Mizzou. What a shame, and a decent chance that the #1 pick in three straight drafts will not have even made the NCAA tournament. How crazy is that.

I don't mind that stat at all. We complain about NBA players going to play for super teams, so it's refreshing to see recruits wanting to stay home and try and right the ship.

Ben Simmons & Markelle Fultz didn't go to hometown schools. They went to dirty programs where they wouldn't be coached. Porter was going to do the same thing until Romar got fired. I'm not saying you have to go to an elite program but I like the guys who go somewhere to compete for a starting spot & be coached hard.
