Milwaukee vs. Norman

ummm, oklahoma weather is pretty crappy. sure don't miss those summer days at grand lake with the sweltering humidity, strong pollen, thunderstorms, etc

of course i have been totally spoiled in scottsdale

but the weather in ok and texas was never good

That's fair enough.

Here's the way I look at it. Living in OK, I get all the benefits of being in a "small town" atmosphere, friendly people, beautiful women (before I was married) and a slower pace. With the low cost of living here, I can have a really nice house plus "toys" and STILL afford to travel to any "more exciting" places I want.

In the end, I am raising a family and couldn't think of a better place to do that.

Oklahoma does have this going for them...roommate is from Chicago and whenever he goes back to see family he complains about this to no end. The South gets it poppin'.

Agree, the lack of seasons in Oklahoma/Texas kills me. I'd rather have snow than wind/ice and a warm summer with little humidity.

Boca, hook me up with a job in Scottsdale and I'll see you there.

camp the economy here is pretty sad right now

you probably have more opportunity to make coin in dallas. that's the only reason i lived there. but once enough coin was turned i was out.

that being said, if you wanted to go cougar hunting you could probably find a sugar mama out here to take care of you, there are thousands roaming around

What??? Lack of seasons????

Have you guys EVER been to Okla (I'm kidding)?

The change of seasons in OK is probably what makes it so appealing to me. I LOVE the sweltering summers, the mild, crisp falls, the frigid winters and the mild and absolutely BEAUTIFUL, rainy springs...

You're right, in all honesty you can't go wrong with OKC, Dallas, Houston at this point. Lots of opportunities (especially in Dallas) in the short term. Lots of OU graduates have moved south the past few years. My brother is a sophomore and he tells me a lot of the older guys always talk about moving to Dallas/Houston.

:woot

I have a friend who's from Wisc. She's a nice, sweet girl for the most part. But man can she become a whining, annoying, high-pitched ***** sometimes. :) You definitely can tell she's not native of this part of the country.

All things being said, this part of the country absolutely destroys the north when it comes to the quality of women. It's not even remotely close. And I like that.

It all depends on your perspective. Pesonally, I think the weather in Oklahoma is great compared to say Detroit, Chicago, or Milwaukee. The winters are long, cold and gray in the Midwest. That is simply a fact and it is the biggest negative to that part of the country in my opinion.

Somelese mentioned that people were rude. I disagree with that. I don't think people are rude. Rather customs are different. Once you get beneth the surface, I think you find people in the Midwest pretty similar to people in Oklahoma.

I like my exposure to winter ... an 8 hour drive to Telluride ... then after enough snow an 8 hour drive back to 157 golf courses.

That's what you think but it's probably the only climate you have ever known. I thought the same thing when I lived in Oklahoma the first 30 years of my life.

Then, we moved to Kansas City and it is 4 distinct seasons, unlike Oklahoma.

I can remember many years in Oklahoma the winter was very mild. I can also remember in 98 or 99 we didn't have a fall. It went straight from summer to winter because the fall was so hot it was like summer. I can remember plenty of years the spring was cut short by either a late freeze or an early hotspell.

KC is totally different and it's almost like clockwork that we have 4 seasons each 3 months long.

Winter -- Mid decemeber to mid-March
Spring -- mid-March to Mid-June
Summer -- Mid-June to mid-September
Fall -- Mid-September to mid-December

Bingo. This goes for almost everywhere. Was in South America this past winter and some of the people in our group were really turned off by some of the places we visited because how the locals interacted. Have to learn that your customs, mannerisms, etc aren't the same as everyone else's.

This. Grew up in the mountains, so a place like Norman just doesn't float my boat. I'm also not in the raising kids demographic, so my view is skewed. In 15 years that may change, but right now I hate going back there to visit my parents, very boring.

Definitely perspective... Every time I go to New Mexico/Arizona I CAN'T WAIT to get home to Oklahoma... The desert landscape is barren and ugly, the dry weather absolutely wears me out, and looking at the mountains is a novelty but otherwise, the mountains do absolutely nothing for me.

Every time I am out there I can't wait to get home to the humidity, big time college sports, hot women, and nice people...

Very true, except I would say the Midwest people in the KC area have a tendency to look down on Oklahoma. That's why the fact OKC got an NBA franchise and KC doesn't have one has been so hard for people up here to accept.

They are friendly, though, just not quite as friendly as your native Okies or native Texans.

Thank you...the Fall season in OK is like two weeks long.

Yes, this is true. I don't come to Norman for the opening football game anymore because I can't handle 100+ temps with 90% humidity with 85K people crammed all around me. Especially if it's a blowout waiting to happen.

I did attend both the Miami and FSU home games both in early September. Both were 90+ with 90% humidity, which is not the way it's supposed to be in early September.

I actually drove home to KC after the FSU game (immediately after the game). When I got home the temp was in the 60's, at about 11 pm. The next day it was low 80's in KC while OKC was 90+ again.

Big difference.

Like you said perspective, Oklahoma isn't winning any landscape contests when it comes to scenery.

Was on the field for the Miami game, thought I was going to die b/c of the humidity. This year's Florida State game wasn't much better, sat with my brother in the student section instead of my donor seats. Huge mistake, sun beat down on us like a slab of bacon on a skillet.

We lived across the lake from Wisconsin in Michigan for several years. The winters there are horrible! It's not bad at first. But going from November to late March or early April without seeing the ground, wears on you after a while. It's downright depressing! If Buzz and his family are as tired of the winters in that part of the country as we were, they can't wait to move to OKlahoma. Anyone who has never experienced it, can't possibly understand what it's like.

We have lived in a number of states over the years and traveled to nearly every state in the U.S. The nicest people in the whole world are right here in Oklahoma! The Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce should hire me as an ambassador for this fine state.

If you aren't an athlete I could see how the mountains do nothing for you. I can't get enough of biking the Mcdowell Mountains, running up camelback mountain, etc. You haven't lived until your looking down from the top of the mountain.
