Milwaukee vs. Norman

Like you said perspective, Oklahoma isn't winning any landscape contests when it comes to scenery.

You should get out and see the state more. There's a thread on the O'Connells board on OUInsider that has landscape pics from around the state. You'd be shocked at the diversity in our landscape. From mountains to desert to forests...it even opened my eyes to the parts of the state I've never seen...

Been from Broken Bow all the way to Guymon, there are some nice parts. Just a different perspective when you grew up hiking 13,000 ft peaks, skiing 2,500ft vertical descents and rafting/kayaking 750ft deep gorges.

Spring in Oklahoma is great. Not a fan of the rest of the weather, though. Too hot in the summer and I like a real winter. Find me a job where I can spend the spring in Norman, the summer in, say, Fort Collins, fall in the Smoky Mountains and winter in Ann Arbor.

We lived across the lake from Wisconsin in Michigan for several years. The winters there are horrible! It's not bad at first. But going from November to late March or early April without seeing the ground, wears on you after a while. It's downright depressing! If Buzz and his family are as tired of the winters in that part of the country as we were, they can't wait to move to OKlahoma. Anyone who has never experienced it, can't possibly understand what it's like.

We have lived in a number of states over the years and traveled to nearly every state in the U.S. The nicest people in the whole world are right here in Oklahoma! The Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce should hire me as an ambassador for this fine state.

I agree. I spent 10 years just outside of Detroit (as a child). They used to give out tokens for recess in the winter. One color meant you went to the cafeteria, one was the gym, one was the library (reading) and one was outside. The least popular token on most days in the winter was outside. It is long and cold.

There are fun things to do, like sledding, snowball figths, skitching (handing on bumpers and dragging behind cars on your heels - probably highly frowned upon today), etc. but it is cold and the winters are long. You just can't appreciate it unless you have experiended.

I suspect he is ready to leave. I know I would be.

Thank you...the Fall season in OK is like two weeks long.

Its fall from October to early December...

Winter from mid December to end of February.

Spring from March - June.

Summer from June - end of September.

Oklahoma has a really good mix of all the seasons. The fall is the shortest, but we have a really nice spring, a nice hot summer, and a little fall.

And the best part: Mild, short winters with fall-like temperatures.

We set cold and snowfall records last winter, and it still wasn't bad for someone who know what it's like in states where the weather is severe. I'll take the hot summers any ol' day over the ice and snow crap in places like Michigan and Wisconsin. I feel sorry for those poor people!

Oklahoma has more ecological zones than any other state. You just have to go to the right places. It's obvious you don't know much about Oklahoma

Agree, the lack of seasons in Oklahoma/Texas kills me. I'd rather have snow than wind/ice and a warm summer with little humidity.

Boca, hook me up with a job in Scottsdale and I'll see you there.

The lack of seasons?!

I tend to think we have four pretty distinct seasons here.

Yes, our winters are relatively mild, but I don't think there's any question that about mid December through mid February or so is WINTER. It's generally cold... we get snow, sleet and ice... winter.

Fall and spring are also pretty distinct... and then, of course, we know about the summers. :)

It sounds to me like you're from western Oklahoma where - yes - there's basically one scene: flat.

Eastern and northeastern Oklahoma are quite a bit different.

As I said before, from the mountains different perspective...been to every corner of the state. It was indicated earlier in the thread, you can't say anything about OK that is not in a 100% positive light without the locals freaking out. Nothing wrong with that, state pride is strong, which is admirable.

This is coming from someone who has spent nearly half his life in OK.

campbest, why do you hate oklahoma???

Thunder > Bucks
OK Weather > Milwaukee Weather
OK Women > Wisc. Women

Red Hawks < Brewers
Packers > Sooners (Barely ;) )

I think it's official.

That pretty much sums it up in my book as well. Plus--I think the proximity in OK is better as well. You're closer to the beaches, mountains, etc. Just think overall its a better area.

Furthermore, and I might get lambasted for this so I apologize if I'm offending any Wisconsin residents, but their accents up there can be slightly irritating to me. I'm sure I'd get used to it if I lived up there, but being from the South, they aren't exactly the most attractive accents.
